We're traveling to MCO in September and staying offsite - thus renting a car. I have my own GPS and don't feel like renting one for $12.99/day so I'm packing it along. Has anyone done this or had problems with airport security? I'm assuming they're probably treated like laptops or cell phones......?

I bring my own to and put in my cheked bag in a case i w rap it in cloths and never had a problem. I never brought in carry on so i dont know but they proberly treat them like lap tops. I brought it to disney and las vegas in checked bag and it made it there and back with no problems.

Just a quick thing to remember..... what if they lose your luggage and it takes a bit to get to you? Do you need it to get to your hotel?

I put mine in my carry on, never had a problem with it. Security never even looked at it.

I would highly recommend carrying all expensive electronics, camera, etc. with you on the plane. There are a lot of sticky fingers working at airports these days! You won't have any problem with security, they see them every day.

I always take one in carry-on, never had a problem. Just leave it in the bag (don't need to take it out like a laptop)..

I always put it in my carry on. Never got a second glance from security (it's just another mobile electronic device.

I would not put it in checked luggage. The airlines specifically exclude electronics in their responsibilities. So if your luggage is lost or it is stolen, they have no responsibility for the GPS.

There's no problem taking it in a carryon.

A good friend's husband put his GPS in his checked luggage and it was stolen. The airline did not replace it due to the above policy.

Laptops and cell phones are treated completely differently from each other, so GPS cannot be treated like "both" of them. Laptops require special protocol to go through security, cell phones do not (just cannot be in your pocket when you walk through security).

Treat your GPS like your cell phone. Definitely do not put in checked baggage, place it in your purse or other carryon bag. No problem at all for TSA.

Thank you all for your responses!:thumbsup2 I think "Serena" will be taking a ride in my carry-on!
