Is there such a thing as getting a discount on rooms using a government rate.
DH or myself is not in military but he is contractor with government and when he is on business he uses a govt rate for all hotels and gets a nice discount.

just curious if it applies to rooms at DIS......not looking for something I don't deserve but just wondering,,,,,,,,,,,

On Disney property only the Swan and Dolphin have goverment rates. Shades of Green is for military personal and families.

We get the govt. discount at the swan. They do require id. My dh is not in the military but works for something like a govt. contractor thing and his id says property of United States Department of ..(Sorry I never mention it in a public forum). But they stated when making the reservation its required etc. Its a good discount for our family of 5 compared to paying rack rate at a deluxe if we cant get a discount, code etc.

Actually the government discount is supposed to be used only for official business, not personal travel. It's not a "benefit" for your family. Just like your government credit card.

That's not what I was told by the Swan/Dolphin. If that were the case, then teachers, nurses, and govt people would all have to be on 'official' business. My dh is an elected town official. He gets paid a paltry amount every year. He does have a regular job. But, we would have been able to get the govt discount with either a pay stub from the town or a letter to the effect that he is a town employee, on town letterhead.

I specifically asked the person at the Swan if we had to be on 'town business' in order to get the discount. She said absolutely not. She said that as long as we had that 'proof' we could come and stay for whatever reason we wanted. She may have been mistaken. But that was what I was told.

Okay, so I was wrong about part of it. I am a Federal employee and my DH is a contractor to the Fed. govt. We never use our id's when traveling except our military ones at SOG since he is a reservist and that is a perk of a military owned resort. Part of the problem we've been warned repeatedly about at work is that some locations that offer government discounts will only give them to you if you use your government credit card which is definitely not allowed. We are just extremely careful because of our jobs. Luvmarypoppins, we never mention ours either. LOL.
