My local Tuesday Morning will be getting a shipment of Gotz dolls next week. They have a set of twin babydolls for $69. The ad says the regular retail price is $249. I've never been a doll person, but want to get a nice doll for my 3 year old for Christmas. I was planning to pay around $40 for a nice doll, but these are so much more realistic looking from what I've seen at Toys R Us, etc. that I wouldn't mind paying extra for a good, sturdy doll. My main question is, are these meant to be just collectible dolls, or will they hold up through the wear and tear of a busy 3 year old?

When I worked in a high end toy store we sold them there. They are very nice dolls and great quality. For $69 you can't beat that price.

I got DD17 a gotz doll from Tuesday morning for her 1st birthday. She survived much love and still sits on her bed!

I am a doll person and I miss the "old" Gotz dolls! They used to be made in Germany and now are being made in China. They aren't the same (from a collector's point of view). Gotz still makes play dolls as well as collector dolls.

For the money, I would suggestion the American Girl baby, Bitty. My DS6 brought one for my daughter when he was born (LOL;) ). My DD8 still sleeps with her Bitty. She's sweet, very durable, and has a ton of accessories! There will always be an easy answer to "what should I buy her this year?" She'd get many many years out of her Bitty Baby!

Either way, every little girl needs a baby doll, it'll make a great gift!!

COROLLE dolls are very nice quality too, and great for a first doll. My daughter absolutley loved hers. And you can throw them in the wash! They are at higher end toy specialty stores. Gotz are also great though!

I bought one at Tuesday Morning a few weeks ago for $29.99. It looks just like an American Girl doll but for $30 I was willing to let my DD4 try one. I got one that wasn't in the ad, long brown hair (no bangs) in a cute pink outfit.

It is sooo cute.
