Gotta vent...do people READ things first??

Gotta ressurect this one just for something I read today...

Title of the thread: "FL Resident Epcot after 4PM annual pass"

OP's question in the thread: "Can anybody get one of these? Are they very strict about being a FL resident?"

Just amazing...didn't even need to read more than the title of the pass they wanted to purchase, still too much to read... :lmao: :lmao:

There's a relatively new thread over on the Disney Dining Plan Board that asks an important question: Why are ADRs so hard to get during free dining?

I'm not sure what surprises me more -- the question, or the patient, helpful way DISers have tried to answer the question and reassure the OP?

I'm starting to think we need a "Here's your sign!" thread. Not for new people who just don't know the ropes yet...but for the truly clueless.

I am probably completely alone here, but for some reason, a pet peeve are post titles that start with: Tell Me About ...

I've seen these on many boards, and what is typical is that the posting is completely open ended. Tell me why I should stay/like/visit/try/buy something or other.

I always want to say, "Who do I look like to you? Hans Christian Anderson? I don't tell stories."

Not sure why it bugs me so much. A bit too open ended I think. Sort of like saying, "Tell me about nuclear fisson." I want to say, "can you be a tad more specific?"

But specific questions don't bother me at all and I happily answer questions. Such as, "What do you like about ...," "If you had a choice between X and Y, what would you choose...", "What do you recommend doing at ..."

I think you should, Jim, and here's the first entry...

[posted on the theme parks and strategies board]
"If we go to the Magic Kingdom on a day thst has MVMCP and we haven't purchased a ticket, can we still stay in the park and watch the parades and fireworks? I know we can't go on the rides but we would like to see the shows."

Seriously, this was posted, and my jaw dropped...wanted to answer with: "Yes, you can stay in the park. The thousands of people who paid $100s of dollars for their families to get in to this event won't mind at all if you just sit on the curb of Main Street for the parades and fireworks."

I refrained and went with: "You need a ticket."

Here's your sign... :lmao:

Naw...that ain't happening for two reasons -- one, it's probably against the board rules because we'd be embarrassing other members, and two...some of my posts would undoubtedly be nominated!

and here's the first entry...

See, I probably would NOT nominate that person. I draw a distinction between the people who just don't know the Disney Drill, and those who are brain-dead. I have to admit, when I bought our tickets to MVMCP last year (having never been), I wondered how they physically accomplished emptying the park of all the people without the sacred wristbands. And frankly, I bet they missed a few.

So I'd probably cut that poster some slack -- certainly more than I'd cut your earlier nominee asking about Florida resident deals for non-Florida residents. I also don't get upset about non-members who are renting asking if they can take advantage of any member perks like pool-hopping. To me, that's "...don't know the drill," and an okay question.

But "Why are ADRs hard to get when they are giving premier dining experiences away for NOTHING?" That and the non-Florida Florida discount are the kind of folks who need a sign...to me. YMMV.

You're probably right, Jim...better off without that thread. This one is probably borderline as it is. :)

The Christmas thing got me because the parades, fireworks, and shows ARE what's different...the rides are all the same.

After revisiting the thread, it appears there are a number of people cheating the system, and proud of it.

No they don't.
Were you trying to make a point or something? I only read the first couple sentences of your post. I'm trying to get some work done here! :rotfl2:

I love it when someone replies to a post with "Believe me, I've researched DVC to the max!" and then starts a post with "Can I really borrow from next year's points?"

I feel like adding my two cents because this initial post and many thereafter really got under my skin. Please don't flame me!

Kick Save: Your initial post basically poked fun of people bartering on the rent/trade board. Then a few posts later, Dr. Tomorrow stated that this is a discussion board and people come here to discuss items. You agreed with him, but your initial post poked fun of people coming to this board to engage in a discussion! So which is it?

People come to this board to DISCUSS! It's a discussion board. Not everyone is a vet to this board and understands how to use it. Please forgive us if we aren't a vet. Not everyone one this board knows the answer to every question...if that were the case - then the DISBoards wouldn't exist. If I have a question - I post it. I don't necessarily have the time to search through 100 and some posts when I want to know how many safes are in an OKW GV. If someone on the rent/trade board is selling, transferring, renting, etc. points and I need extra, then I'll contact anyone and everyone until I get what I want. Don't make fun of people coming to the boards to discuss - it's what the boards were meant for.

Gotta spur it on a bit more... ;)

How's about a few more threads on the theme parks boards about Crocs??

"Where can I buy crocs?"

"What are crocs?"

"Will crocs make my feet stink?"

Gotta love it... :lmao:

I didn't know it was legal to buy crocs.
Can you pick one out from the resort lake and have it shipped back home?
Will they skin it for you?
Tell me about crocs....

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks for resurrecting this because one happened on the restaurant board last week that drove me nuts.

"Will I like this restaurant?"

The thread went on for three pages, some people LOVED it, some people HATED it. Some people decribed in detail what sounded like bad food and lousy service.

Three pages in a post "We love this place, I've never heard anything bad about it."

This whole subject sounds like a crock to me....

Frank

Oh no....are we back to discussing crock pots again? Isn't that what got a bunch of people's panties in a bunch and they left and started a new board?

I'm with Rinkwide and others.....it's a discussion board. If you want to discuss, do it. If you don't, or if the repetitive questions drive ya crazy...don't.

I realize OP was just trying to start another discussion, and see no reason to slam him or her either. Sometimes I ask questions cause I just can't get the 'search' engine to work for me. Sometimes I answer repetitive questions because I have the time; and sometimes I don't.

So, who has seen POCII? :goodvibes

I think Kick Save was looking at the posts where the original post says something to the effect that they don't want to barter - their price is firm. Or that they only have points to transfer, no sales to non-members. The following posters seem to ignore the facts in the original post and want to do something entirely different.

I have been following a thread on the R/T Board where someone has reservation points for sale. The OP went so faras to say where they could be used in great detail. Then following posters ask to get a reservation at a DVC resort because his points are cheap, They just didn't read beyond the line - points for rent $8.50 a point.

I liked your first post Kick Save, I'm a teacher and don't have a lot of patience for people who don't try to find the answer before asking...I think we should change the title to "Here's Your Sign" ;) Common sense is a dwindling thing these days. I often add it to my school supply list for my class.
