Gotta go to RFC at AK - what's edible?

My son is dragging me to Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom for lunch next Friday. I've eaten there four times. Three times I didn't care much for my food, especially for the price, and once it was good.

The stuff I didn't like included a salad that's no longer on their menu that had fried chicken and blue cheese and some other stuff, a chicken friend steak with mashed potatos (gravy tasted like cream of chicken soup out of a can with some chives in it) and their Lava Nachos.

I did like the clam chowder though the caesar salad I ordered with it was laughable (dressing is better at McDonalds).

Mind you, none of it was inedible, it just wasn't GOOD. Know what I mean?

Anyways, I wonder if I'm just missing what this kitchen does well, and I was hoping some fans can steer me to their best dishes!

Here's hoping I can enjoy my meal while my son enjoys his $10 frozen dinosaur nugget kids meal.

My sympathies. :guilty: We don't care for their food either. We've eaten there 3 times and didn't like anything we ate - and we're not picky eaters (especially me!). The one meal I did have that was passable was the oriental chicken salad, but that was many years ago and I'm not even sure it's still on the menu. Does the RFC own Applebee's by any chance... :rotfl:

We like eating breakfast there.

We generally go for the enviro and because my 8yr old loves the dino chicken nuggets. I had the oriental chicken salad about a month ago and it was really good....much better than some of the things I've chosen in the past (*jambalya*). The coconut shrimp skewers are also good, we usually get them as an appetizer. Enjoy your lunch!

I almost always get the Rumble in the Jungle turkey wrap with fries (without the Caesar dressing, but with ranch dressing on the side), but I think that's only on the lunch menu. It's pretty good, but sometimes a little dry (which is why I get the dressing). My husband seems to enjoy the Blue Mountain Chicken Sandwich. I feel like he used to get some kind of buffalo chicken sandwich, but if that's the case, I don't think it's on the menu anymore.

The most recent time I went, I had the Mojo Bones. I really liked the bbq sauce, and the ribs were very tender. I should mention that this meal was at the RFC in the Menlo Park Mall here in Jersey, so I don't know if it would be as good at AK.

It's not the best food on Disney property, but it's pretty good and the atmosphere makes it worth it, as far as we're concerned.

Good luck! Hope you find something you like!

The China Island Chicken Salad is absolutely delicious. One of my all-time favorite entree salads. Delicious, light dressing. High quality chicken. TONS of lettuce and crunchies. Just very very yummy. I go to RFC every few months because we have one near our house and this is what I get every single time, lol.

I usually order an appetizer as my entree. The Rainforest Pita Quesadilla is pretty good.

I agree with byoung -- breakfast is good at RFC. We will many times do a very late breakfast, and skip lunch.

Anytime we go to a Rainforest cafe (DD loves it so it's a must whenever we're near one) this is what I get:

Rainforest Pita Quesadillas - Grilled chicken, roasted peppers, caramelized onions and melted cheese on grilled pita bread, served with fresh pico de gallo and sour cream $8.99

It's good and I haven't noticed one Rainforest doing it better or worse than another.

I always get the sampler appetizer as my meal. It has crab dip, calamari, and a couple of chicken things - one in wontons and chicken strips I think. Anyway, it's not terribly expensive and there's always enough to share and/or take back to the hotel for later!

Despite the huge menu, I always end up getting the Brave New World chicken pizza. It's tough to mess up pizza, and I minored in pizza in college.

I think that's the name. I started to call it the Grand Ole Opry for some reason.

A few things we like from RFC (not the ones in Disney, but the menu's the same everywhere) :

Blue Mountain chicken sandwich
Coconut Shrimp
Jungle turkey wrap
Fajitas (beef/chicken combo)

I personally like the Passport to Paradise pizza (basically a cheese flatbread pizza) or the Coconut shrimp. I feel the same way about this place. My kids love the environment so they want to go there. The food is only okay. ;)

My family and I always go to the Rainforest in DTD and I always order the Planet Earth Pasta, (without shrimp) my Dad get's the China Island Chicken Salad and my Mom get's the Volcanic cobb Salad. However she always get's it without blue cheese and black olives, so instead she asks for shaved parmesan cheese.

Since we always go there at least two times I want to try the Rumble in the Jungle Turkey Wrap, because it sounds amaizing.

We are going for breakfast on the morning of our AK park, it looks reasonable and they get to see all the animals and the restaurant..:hippie:

If they have the same menu as the rest of the RFCs, I would recommend the crab cakes. The remoulade sauce is good (not too much of a kick, but just spicy enough) and the napa vegetables are good as well.

DH usually get the shrimp combo and doesn't complain.

RFC is not one of our favorite restaurants, but since it is only 4 miles from home, the kids usually get treated at Xmas and their birthdays.

The crab cake tasted pretty good. My DH's dish, I can't remember what it was now, was awful. My daughter loved the cups that had she got that flashed different colors.

RFC has gone downhill IMO. It was much better when we first went years ago. Lately, I haven't been impressed. I find the food to be better at the one in DL in CA over the location at DAK. You really are going here for the atmosphere, so you have to overlook how the food isn't that great.

My son and I like the Rasta Pasta (pasta, chicken & vegetables in a light alfredo type sauce). My husband likes the rumble in the jungle and my older son gets the pepperoni pizza. I also agree...the clam chowder is really good.
