Since I have one train fanatic and two more that are more than a little interested we went to the Fullerton Railroad Days today (one town up from Anaheim). We were very excited to find the Disneyland Railroad Engine #2 the E.P. Ripley was there! We stood in line and got a chance to get in the engine with one of the engineers. They boys each rang the bell and blew the whistle and took a look around. The engineer was really nice and answered their questions thorougly.

But one little thing we found out that I had never seen mentioned before is that you can ask to ride with the engineers on Engine #1 and Engine #2. There is a little bench for guests. Has anyone ever gotten to do this? The young man whose dad built the trains for Disney was there today too signing his books. He was chosen by Walt to help run the train around the park at a preview for the park in June 2005. It was the day before his 13th birthday.

It was a very cool day, but I wanted to pass on the asking for a ride thing. I have heard many times about riding in the front of the monorail, but not the railroad trains before.

:goodvibes

It's called a tender ride and I've done it 3 times. You have to board at the Main Street Station and take the full circuit around the park, but it's pretty fun. Not that good on a hot day, though as it's very hot in the locomotive. You can only do it on the E.P. Ripley and C.K. Holliday locomotives (they usually have at least one of them out at any given time). Ask inside the station.

How many guests can do the tender ride at one time? I'm guessing two. I may try this when I'm out there in June, I am a fan of the DL RR :)

We were there also! My kids were only mildly impressed that the engine was there, but I loved it. Thanks for the tip about riding at DL. It would absolutely make my dad's day. :cool1:

Yes, just 2 at a time, and the seat is pretty small.
