Dunno if this is true or not, since (debating aside) I don't vote... but obviously this tshirt company is for Obama...but would assume it'd go for McCain shirts as well?
Anyways...just wanted to give a heads up to all those ready to vote in this election!

The T-Shirt Factory, LLC

HELLO EVERYONE:

PLEASE ADVISE EVERYONE YOU KNOW THAT THEY ABSOLUTELY CANNOT GO TO THE POLLS WEARING ANY OBAMA SHIRTS, PINS OR HATS, IT IS AGAINST THE LAW AND WILL BE GROUNDS TO HAVE THE POLLING OFFICIALS TURN YOU AWAY. THAT IS CONSIDERED CAMPAIGNING AND NO ONE CAN CAMPAIGN WITHIN X AMOUNT OF FEET OF THE POLLS. THEY ARE BANKING ON US BEING EXCITED AND NOT BEING AWARE OF THIS LONG STANDING LAW THAT YOU CAN BET WILL BE ENFORCED THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY ARE BANKING THAT IF YOU ARE TURNED AWAY YOU WILL NOT GO HOME AND CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES.. PLEASE JUST DON'T WEAR OBAMA GEAR OF ANY SORTS TO THE POLLS!!

It seems ever post I read of yours states that you don't vote. How odd.

As best as I can remember -- there have always been signs so many feet from the polling place warning that no campaigning, etc, can be done within so many feet of the polls.

Not odd....I think it's great that people who follow it all do vote...and I wanna help those who are passionate about it if I can... Just not something Im passionate about... If I post that I dont' vote....it's in a political thread.. I'm interested in other peoples thoughts is all.....

Most folks who do vote already know ya not spozed to wear political messages into the voting polls.
LOL, maybe the person who sent ya the email thinks ya might change your votin' habits this year. ;)

You don't vote? Ever? Just wondering - why not?:confused3

Honestly? I've never registerd because I've never really followed politics.. I'd say this is the first election I've ever really known anything about. I always felt it was better to allow those who knew where the candidates stood and had a true preference on how this country was ran to vote. Who am I to take an uneducated vote away from someone who had done their research??

But..as I said..I didnt' want to debate MY choice not to vote, I just wanted to give a heads up to those who did.... call it 'doing my part' :)

You'd think. But this election is bringing out so many first time voters that it's probably smart to advise them on something as basic as that. Judging by the behavior of a lot of these people at the primary and at the county convention, some of these people haven't got a clue.

Hey, you're right 'n thanks for the reminder. :goodvibes

It is a rule here in my town in NH that you cannot wear any political stuff into the polling station.I think it could be part of election law. I usually volunteer holding signs at my polling place and need to take any buttons, or stickers off before entering the building. When I am wearing a tshirt, I make sure that I have a jacket on and it is closed before entering as well.

Those signs are always posted here in Texas. I should think it would be "common sense" not to wear campaign clothing to the polls, but then again, I guess common sense isn't so common in today's society.

I don't remember seeing the signs when we lived in CA, but those types of laws may vary from state to state, just as the type of voting equipment used also varies.

If past elections are any indication, many voters didn't know where their polling place was, where and WHEN they have to register (registration closes for our election on Oct 6th) and that they need SOMETHING to show who they are.

People were allowed to cast provisional ballots, but complained that they were "denied their right to vote" because they didn't have a clue about the process.

So yes, I absolutely believe that some people will show up wearing a political tee shirt, etc, and be turned away. Then will be on the news talking about how they weren't allowed to vote, and the election was "rigged" in favor of the other guy.

Yep - we have a Bush Beans factory near here - their employees had to cover their logo (Bush) on work clothing worn to the polling place!

seeeee.... I AM trying to help :) :goodvibes

Absolutely, and thanks for the reminder. I think most folks, though, were just surprised that others don't already know the voting laws and regulations.

There's still time to register and become informed. Don't know which party appeals? Register as an Independent. Don't you feel like voting is an adult responsibility? My parents never registered as they never wanted to be called for jury duty. I think of voting and jury duty as a responsibility rather than a privilege of living in this great country. Not a debate - just a thought.

I work at the voting station and we do not turn voters away if they are wearing a Candidate's shirt we ask that they turn the shirt inside out so they can vote. No polling inside the voting station is allowed. All buttons, signs or shirts cannot be displayed must be 100 yards away.

Most people wearing a t-shirt or a button don't think of it as campaigning. To most people "campaigning" is more of an active sort of thing - telling people to vote for candidate X or why candidate Y sucks. Etc.

I have to confess I got in trouble with this very issue once. I had button on my purse, It had been on there for 3 or 4 months and I didn't even think about it. It wasn't until I was at the booth with my ballot - that someone came up whispered in my ear to take it off that I realized what I'd done. ooops!
