Okay I thought I was getting standard view but actually got preferred. It says garden pool. Is that preferred?? I was going for the lower points that a standard has and thought that was what I had. So how are the preferred views??????

It is preferred. Standard is only about 25% of the resort and all those overlook the front area (valet, road up to valet, or parking lot) and just around a corner over the tennis courts. Everything else, classified as either boardwalk view or pool or garden view, is preferred. Your view would look out over one of the pools or the lagoon, which are fine. Boardwalk view, which you can request, is best but difficult to get unless you reserve with 11 month window; standard view, because of lower points and limtied number of rooms, is also difficult to get except with 11 month window.

I'm confused on how you thought you got standard view. If you requested Standard View, the CM would have had to inform you that it was not available and that only preferred would be available. And he/she must have told you the number of points required, which are higher. So it's not like MS can "slip one by you" and put you in a villa using more points than you approve. :confused3

As drusba says, with the Preferred Garden/Pool your view will be the quiet pool, the main pool, or the Swan/Dolphin with the canal part of each of those views.

Enjoy your stay! :)

Never said that MS tried to slip one by me or did I blame MS for messing this up. Didn't put any blame out there. I thought I had Standard view IN MY MIND. I made a couple of changes to my initial ressie and guess I didn't pay attention to what garden view/pool was, didn't recall her telling me I had preferred. It doesn't say on the conf. letter preferred either just garden/pool. I guess I thought that was standard and that boardwalk view was preferred. Yes I did get confirmation papers with the point totals used for my two stays in Aug. but I really didn't pay attention to them because we had 600 points to use or bank by March 31. So then I added an extra day to our trip yesterday and when I went onto DVC member site today..I thought the points looked high for the BWV portion of our trip. So I then realized I was down for preferred. It is no biggie we have lots of points to play with and we get another 300 in Oct.......just wondered how preferred views are compared to standard. Wow...I guess we have to really EXPLAIN....ourselves on this board so that it is not misunderstood. I am a newbie at the whole DVC thing. This our first DVC trip. Still trying to figure it all out. :headache:

:thumbsup2 Thank you so much for explaining that to me. I truly appreciate it. :goodvibes

I'm looking forward to hearing your impression of your first trip as a DVCer! Wishing you loads of pixiedust:!

My sister and I just returned from the BWV and were in a preferred view studio. We had a great view of the main pool that was awesome except for the behemouth Swan/Dolphin resorts looking like they were going to swallow us. I know this sounds unreasonable but I am not going to add on at the BWV because I think those 2 resorts are a blight and really spoil the setting for me. The Boardwalk view is sometimes too much action for me and I like a pool view. Don't get me wrong-I do love the BWV-please no flames- it's just not my favorite and I'll save it for you BWV Lovers!!! (but I wonder how many others think the S/D are just plain ugly??) That's the beauty of DVC-something for everyone!! Anyway-enjoy your stay!!

Count us in as thinking the S/D are very, very ugly indeed. It really is a shame Disney let them be built, they should have required higher standards. I returned our rented car at the Dolphin I think it was on our last OKW trip and boy was I glad to be at OKW after going into that place! :sad2:

One thing I do when making reservations is always confirm my point balances to match my records. You would then catch it right away if you were being charged preferred view points instead of standard or if they had the wrong number of nights.

That does make perfect sense. Since this was our first ressie for DVC....I just wanted to get the days that I didn't even really pay to much attention to the points because we had 600 and I just wanted to secure resorts/days.. So yes....VERY GOOD IDEA. I will make sure I have all my ducks in a row so to speak. I would do that if I were paying cash so I need to watch my points just the same. :)

I make my reservations by stating exactly what I want and where the points are coming from:

"I want x nights, BWV BWView in a two bedroom starting October X and checking out on October X for XXX points, XX of those points are the banked points from 2006, XXX points from 2007. " (and if necessary, "borrow XX points from 2008.")

Actually Granny, what you described in your first paragraph is exactly what happened to us. I booked a standard view, points were correct when we discussed numbers before I hung up. Got the confirmation in the mail, never checked them (never stayed at a resort that had 2 diff point levels, so never thought to check). Went on the DVC website one day and noticed the extra points missing. Checked the reservation (paper one) and sure enough, we had a prefered view :scared1: .

For some reason, someone actually changed our view (and sadly, the extra points needed for that view). I called MS and at first they did not believe me, but then I finally got to explain it to a supervisor and they switched be back to std view and restored the points. Very strange....Fortunately, that is probably very rare.

I really like the preferred pool/garden views :thumbsup2 The main pool is very fun with alot of action and alot to look at. I just love watching the kids (small and us big kids too!) going down the slide. You can also see the friendship boats in the canal going to and from MGM. The quiet pool view looks really nice, a little more relaxed. I haven't had that view yet. And I also enjoyed the view of the Swan and the canal - although when I had that it was standard view, but I guess there are both views there. Enjoy planning your trip!!:cheer2:

Thats an excellent way to think of it :thumbsup2

crisi , is this the way you like asking for it , or have you just figured out MS works better when presented with your info this way?

I've only made a couple of ressies with points and so far I always thought I was " messing " up the way they need the info . I think I might just start doing it your way THANKS !:thumbsup2
