Got Our First Letter From the Desert of Kuwait...

Patty,
The letter you received from your son is wonderful. I know it must have made you cry because it made me cry. I will pray for your son.
I have a question, how long did you have to wait until you were allowed to send care packages? My dd's bf just left saturday and we were told that although we can send letters now we have to wait until he reaches his destination base before we can send care packages and I was wondering how long that took in your son's case. Thanks, Keli

Thanks for sharing your sons letter. God bless him. I'm a co-leader for brownie troop. We are gone to work on sending him a care package. Thanks for his address. We don't have a meeting until next week but I'll be working on this to get it out soon.

Bobby left Camp Pendleton on the 7th of February. We had his overseas address before he ever left the U.S. We were told that this address would follow him wherever he moved to - that the mail would always find him.

As for some of the other questions:

1. During previous wars, I was told that people could send a package to "any soldier". But, because of security purposes that is not an option today. Your package MUST be mailed to a specific soldier. I know that my son's captain's name is Captain Casey Barnes and his address would be the same as my son's. If you wanted, you could send a package to Captain Barnes, specifically asking him to disperse to soldiers in his unit. That's just another idea.

2. As for "introducing yourself" if you send a package to Bobby, I would just say that you are an online Disney friend of his mother's. Trust me...he knows what a Disney freak his mom is! :)

Hope I've answered some of your questions, and thanks again to all of you!!!

Thank you very much for sharing.

This letter gives all of us insight to the real men, fathers, sons, brothers, women, sisters, mothers that are out in the desert putting their lives on the line for our nation.

Your son's letters were very touching. I will continue to say prayers for all our armed forces.

Jen

Oops, I just PM'd you, and now I see you have posted info on your son's address and a list things his troop might need.

Care package on its way from D.C.! :)

Thanks so much for posting his letter, it really touched me. I will pray for your son's safety and swift return home.

I can just picture these guys with more wipes and batteries than they know what to do with if we all send the same thing :)

I bet this won't be a problem. They could always share it with others and I bet there are lots of guys there.

It would be cool if you could get your son to send some names of other guys who don't generally receive mail who might enjoy a card or a package specifically addressed to them.

Also, what about laundry soap? If they're doing their own laundry in buckets maybe this would be a good idea?

Keep us posted.....and if you don't mind sharing, we'd love to hear the next letter.

Are you writing daily? I think I would be if I were you. Thank your son for all of us!

Your post touched my heart and now I have tears!! I will definitely be sending a care package from NH! Thank you so much for sharing Bobby's letter...I definitely look forward to reading more of them as you post!!

You can go here to "adopt a soldier" and find more information on sending care packages.
