DH and I will be volunteering for the National Kidney Foundation on Sunday March 28th in Syracuse, NY.

We have been asked to be there by 7 to help set up for the big walk that day. The walk starts at 9. It did not say when we would finish, but I emailed the director and asked.

I went to the disney link email to register this event, but it asked for an end time which I am waiting to hear.

How many hours do we need to complete for a free ticket?

We hope to complete the necessary hours in one day and if so, will we have enough time to receive the voucher or certificate before our trip? We volunteer 3/28 and will leave 4/19.

We have two one day park hoppers and two waterparks left. So we will most likely take the free ticket each. An extra day at a park and helping a good cause. Yahoo! :cool1:

I am a director of a non-profit and we just hosted our event 2/13. Hope this will help a bit....

1) You might not hear back if the director is swamped with volunteers on top of planning the walk...I know I missed returning calls. (I feel guilty about it, but I know it happened even though I tried to stay on top of all the volunteers).

2) There is no set time minimum in order to get the voucher. Enter a good guess on how long you'll be there (or just put 7 - 5). Your entry will just generate your name on the official list. When the even is over, the director will just log on and click that you attended -- it wont have a spot to verify the exact number of hours or anything. It will just list your name, the date and "Attended" or "No show."

So unless you specifically need to know what time you will finish b/c of evening plans or something, just enter an approximation on the website. It should be fine.

If you hear back, you may be able to revise, but either way, I dont think it will matter.

HTH...HaVE FUN!

wHOOOPS.... I answered before I saw you other question....

You should be fine with those dates. First of all, I hear the turn around is quick, as it is all done electronically (One volunteer told me someone they know got theirs in 4 days). And, secondly, the director needs to verify your attendance within 72 hours -- and if you didnt receive your voucher or even forgot it, once it's verified in the system, Disney can look it up in their computer...

So you'll be fine...Have fun & ENjoY!

I would expect that you will have to remain until the event has ended and cleanup done. If, for example, they expect the last person to finish the course at 2:00 then you would probably have to remain until 3:00 or so. But leaving early would have the same result as not attending since you did not do all that you have committed to do.

I think the question was more "is there a set number of hours required to be verified?" since the OP was wondering if she would have to do more than one day to achieve that hypothetical hour total.

And I'm pretty sure the answer is no, there is no hour requirement set by Disney; it is at the discretion of the individual organization. I've seen organizations asking for a one time three hour block of time and organizations asking for one day a week for a year. If you signed up for an event, just completing that event should be fine. Chesire Figment or others, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. The organization can determine the # of hours. Some post extended opportunities, but most are a single date -- whether it's 6 hours of painting, or 3 hours for a lunhc service in a soup kitchen, etc. If it's an event, like a walk, I would think it would be for however long that event was, but not a second day.

And, definitely stay the whole time you are asked to stay -- which may be until everything is all cleaned up (unless they do 2 shifts). I wasnt sugesting otherwise.

...I just meant if it's a flexible scheduling opportunity it shouldnt matter what ending time you enter. The person will still be able to verify your attendance for that day. I thought part of the question was about the data entry piece of the sign up process.

HTH

The woman got back to me and said to write down 1pm. I still don't know if we are supposed to raise money for the walk too? I will call or email her, but I hate to bother her.

I went back to the disney/give a day site and typed it all in and checked off my husband's name. Now I think I don't do anything until the day we go volunteer.

Either way, we can help the Kidney foundation and now spend a day at EPCOT which was not in the original itinerary. :)
