Well after reading all the tips from everyone that contributed to my last thread on digital cameras I finally chose one that was in the budgetted amount.

I went for the Canon Powershot S230 (Digital IXUS v3) - it looks great and feels great I've only had a play with the automatic shooting so far and haven't touched the manual or digital zoom. I like it very much as it reminds me of my IXUS APS which I have.

So far so good - I hope it's a keeper ;)

Any comments on this camera are appreciated as I have 28 days in which to take it back if I'm not happy with it.

Thanks again

That sounds great Sam. Show us some pictures you have taken then ;)

That's a nice camera Sam :) (although I'm biased towards Canon) :)

I suggest that you invest in some larger compact flash card(s), the one that comes with the camera is probably only about 16Mb and you will soon fill it :) Take a look at the following site for cheap CF cards:

£24.85 for a 128Mb card

Avoid using the digital zoom - the quality of the photos goes down when you use it.

Thanks Tim - I'll bear that in mind.

I got a 128mb yesterday and paid a bit more for it than that - so from now on I'll order from this site.

Would you be able to advise me where I can buy a self-powered USB hub from.

Thanks ever so again :0

Cool Sam! You'll find that you take a lot more pictures than you used to.

You might want to think about setting up your organization/backup system on your computer immediately and stick to it. In order to print those pics, they have to be (well they don't have to be  ) enhanced/cropped and backed up. I send all of my prints off to Ofoto or Shutterfly for printing. The prints are better quality than anything I can get out of my printer, they're cheaper, and they last longer.

I have a backlog of about 1000 pictures at the moment, which I need to get to.

Have fun!
