I love it when people think they know about carbs and they really don't.

I went to the mall today and while I was there I just had to get a low carb freezer from Barnie's coffee. Then I went to DQ to get DH a smoothie and the guy asked me what I was drinking. I told him a low carb freezer and he started huffing and puffing. Then he pulls out the nutritional sheet for their products. DQ has 3 coffee desserts available and this guy wanted to compare carbs. First off he couldn't even find the word Carb on the sheet, when we found it, I pointed out the fact that the Mocha drink had 53 grams of carbs, he asked how many my drink had and I said 5. I told him that the mocha drink would put me into a sugar coma. He then started making comments like it may be low carb but you have to give up taste for low carb items, and are you sure it has that many carbs in it, and he actually gave me a coupon for there dessert drinks. He still has no idea what Low Carb means and why some people can't or choose not to put them into their body.

A lot of people just don't get it.
Our Schwan man wanted to know why we weren't buying anymore.
I told him I've been on LC since January. He told me how awful LC is. It's deadly. lol. But his Ice Cream and breaded products are just so nutritious.

My sister in law came up for a visit from FL last month. She commented how good I look, but behind my back she told DH that what I'm doing is wrong.
She said it's wrong to eat nothing but beef and grease. She honestly believes that is what I eat.
I eat mainly chicken, veggies, etc. I don't like greasy foods like bacon or sausage. I don't like beef at all.

Some people just don't get it. There is so much misinformation out there.

It's hard to believe that after all this time, people are still so ignorant about this stuff! Years ago, people called Atkins the "bacon diet". lol. I very rarely eat bacon.

Yesterday I saw an ad on TV for a low-carb fiber pill. It said something like "for people eating low carb" and it showed a plate with a big slab of beef on it, and nothing else. Who eats like that??? If I have a steak, or chicken, or fish, or any kind of meat, I always have it with a nice side of vegetables or a salad! It's ads like that - that give low-carb a bad name.

Ok, off my box now... :teeth:

Hell to all, I can't agree with you more!! I am eating healthier on low carb than ever before!! and 32 pounds thinner to boot!! No fried food and high sugar foods! And WAY more veggies and salad. I also have more energy. I always felt like I needed a nap after eating a big plate of fried up food. To all living low carb keep up the good work!

LOL Square Pond! I hope you meant to say "hello to all"!! :earseek:

Welcome to the DIS, and congratulations on your success so far!

OOPS!! Hello to all!! Thats a definate! although giving up fries and chocolate can be HELL at times!!

I've given up the fries, but I will NOT give up chocolate!!

My favorite chocolate bars are Pure Delite dark chocolate and dark chocolate orange flavors! Only 2 or 3 carbs for the whole bar! They're a little expensive, but so worth it!!

Me....
but you knew that :)

Hi!

DH and I went to DQ last week and I was really tempted to have one of those cappuccino smoothies, too. I mentioned carbs and the owner got a nutritional chart for them, but no carbs were shown on his sheet, only calories, etc. I figured the carb count must be high anyway, so I was good & had an orange bar.

I've lost 34 pounds so far (doing Curves Low Carb Diet) and have 21 to go by our Disney vacation in October!! :) Hopefully I'll be down to go by Labor Day week so that I'll be on mainenance for about a month before we go. I also have to fit into the "Alice in Wonderland" costume I purchased for MNSSHP. It says "Medium" on the tag, but is more like a small or extra-small ... It's about 3 inches apart in my back where the velcro is supposed to attach! :( I get weighed & measured today at Curves, so it's time to try it on again (I try it on each month at this time).

Great job to all of you dedicated low-carbers!! :)

LOL Alex! I thought of you as I was typing that!! :hyper:

About six years ago I worked with a woman who needed to lose more than 100 pounds. She went on "Atkins" before any of us had really heard much about it. Every morning she went to the cafeteria and had eggs and a pile of bacon to which she added several pats of butter. And she drank half & half as a beverage. I am not kidding.

She swore she had his book and it told her that she could eat this way. That is the image some people have of Atkins.

well barbeml that actually is an option! while I have never tried half and half as a beverage.. because it sounds gross the original atkins diet, which was no carbs except for a handful of lettuce a day does work fine.

Sorry, I can't even drink whole milk!

Actually, my colleague gained another 20 pounds on Atkins. She wound up have gastric bypass surgery.

I wonder how somebody would gain weight by cutting out the processed flours and sugars from their diet?? I'm thinking she wasn't following the diet properly. If all somebody eats is meat, eggs, cheese, and vegetables there's no way they can gain 20 pounds...

I hope everything went well for her with the surgery and she's doing well now! That's pretty scary! ::yes::

I haven't heard anything about her lately. I don't know all that much about Atkins, but I guess she was still consuming a huge number of calories.

Just like on any other diet, if you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight, regardless of whether the calories come from fat, carbs, or protein. My DH also knows people who have gained weight on Atkins.

That's absolutely true! That's why the Atkins book says to eat "only enough to satisfy your hunger." It does not give people permission to overeat.

I think many people say they're "on Atkins" when in reality, they are not following the rules stated in the book. They think they can eat as much as they want, as long as it's low in carbs. That's when what they're doing becomes unhealthy and will not work for them.
