I'm getting ready to go on a 3 week vacation in Western Canada. We'll be doing a mixture of activities including camping, caving, hiking, boating, off-roading, museums, and more. I'm going over all of our packing lists.

Here's what I have for photo gear. See anything I'm missing?

OK, it's usually one word in photo terms, but whatever. Even my cheap Zenitar with its crop factor was a mandatory lens to bring everywhere, and my new 10-17mm is even more so. Fun fun fun!

I came quite close to buying a fisheye from a guy on craigslist. I plan to get one, but I haven't found the right deal yet. That and a real macro lens are high on my list of desirables.

Ah yes, a macro is another consideration, especially if you want to do bug or flower photos. I picked up a cheap but pretty good screw-mount 55mm F2.8 1:1 macro recently but just haven't gotten around to playing with it much. A ~100mm might be more useful, but hey, as I said, this was pretty cheap.

One problem is that a good macro shot might take a bit longer to set up and your family's patience may run this when you're on a vacation with them.

We live in Edmonton, AB and can definitely say you'll enjoy your trip up north!

Bring your bug spray as the mosquitos have been biting, as well as your sunscreen - we've had hot humid weather over the past couple of weeks (temps 85F+).

Not sure if you have this on your itinerary, but if you have kids, you might want to consider taking a day trip to Drumheller, AB (http://www.dinosaurvalley.com/) and the Royal Tyrrell Museum (http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com/). On your way, you'll see the badlands which are absolutely stunning.

Drumheller is a little farther east than we plan on going. We're starting and ending our trip in Vancouver and driving as far east as Banff/Jasper. It looks great, but we only have so much time and don't want to spend too much of it in the car.

Part of my cleaning kit. I've got the rocketblower, a couple of brushes, cleaning fluid, lens paper, a microfiber cloth, and some "dust-aid" sensor cleaning pads.

Any portable off-camera lighting stuff (light stand / small umbrella / PC cord or wireless flash triggers)?

I've got an off camera cord, but that's it for ligth stuff. I'd like to add a foldup reflector, but not this time.

Extra batteries for flash?

We'll be buying a big thing of AA and AAA batteries once we get on the ground.

Any inclement weather stuff (poncho / large zip lock bag)?

Rain gear is packed. The camera backpack comes with a rain cover.
