Got downgraded at Vero

I hope you can make use of those points! We had a pool view but could still see some ocean. What a delightful resort it was.

Yay to getting your points back. Did they tell you why you could not get the room you booked?

when we got there last week i was downgraded from an OVIR to a pool view
but to dvc s credit they basically reimbursed me my points basically staying for free!
I'm curious. The rooms on the front half of the building are "OV" and the rooms on the back half are "SV". They are not intended to represent the view from a given villa. In these terms did you get a standard view? They don't have a pool view designation for points reservations.

She called it pool view/ Garden view
we were just above bleachers, 3rd floor

I had a great pool view with a bit of ocean in the background in January. It was a great view for the Garden view points!

yeah i had no problems with the view, my wife however.......
I understand. However, I had booked relatively late in the game, and I was happy to get something! This time, like some others, we stayed at Vero just before a cruise, and on the cruise we had a balcony, so I knew I would soon have an ocean view.

I am happy you had a good time!

I'm not familiar with that view enough to tell based on your description and it does sound like they put you in a garden view unit based on the other info you've provided. However, many people incorrectly interpret the view types as indicating the quality of the view and this is incorrect with timeshares. For example, historically one has needed to be above the second floor with the OVIR to actually get a view of the ocean. The actual view from a given unit can't be guaranteed and as such, complaining in that situation is inappropriate IMO.

well when you pay 4 more points a night for a specific view and book that view you expect an ocean view
at most places i could care less but at vero ocean view matters
we never complained, the lady (Nicole) offered us our points back which was very nice of them

That's just it, in your mind you may be paying for a specific view but in reality you are not.

As I recall a few years ago DVC did change those rooms from OV to SV so they have some criteria for it being view vs location. There were quite a few complaints of booking OV and then having a sideways view of the ocean or mostly pool view.

Definitely nice of them to do that but definitely disappointing to not get what you booked. I know the last minute refurb there has thrown a few disruptions in.

i think my wife was somewhat disappointed because we werent notified, but like i said they more than made up for it, very nice of them

im sorry im really trying to figure out your point
could you rephrase?
My point is that in the timeshare world view is more of location than view and that often members don't understand that. From what you've posted, that doesn't seem to be the case here as you've said you were put in a garden view villa. Put another way, complaining about view from a given villa is unreasonable if one got a villa that is in that designation. If you truly got a garden view villa, an adjustment in points based on the difference and a small amount more for the aggravation is reasonable, maybe an extra 10-25%. It would not be reasonable just because the view wasn't what you thought it should be. Unfortunately MS is often too quick to grease the squeaky wheel inappropriately.

1. i never complained, they simply offered
2. by the very definition we were downgraded, no different than going from Board walk view to garden view at BWV
3. obviously Disneys Vero Beach values ocean view because its 4 more points a night...i mean its the reason you go there is to be on the ocean...i took the time to make sure we got a OVIR at 7 months, made the reservation
4. The lady at the front desk (Nicole) was fantastic
5. i dont know the time share world view but disney places a premium on views thats why at Bay lake a mk view is 19 points a night and standard is 14

I think you did misunderstand my point. I think we can agree on these items:
  • VB has OVIU & SVIR
  • There is a points difference between the 2.
  • The view will vary from each room and that not all "OV" rooms have a good view or even a view of the ocean.
  • That someone has to get those rooms at that price.
  • That DVC can reallocate the points and change the booking category if they want.
It sounds like you were given a standard view room when you had reserved an OV room but I don't know for certain if that's the case. If it is, and only if it is accurate, an adjustment between the cost of each is a no brainer. Anything else would have been unnecessary but a relatively small bonus of a MAX of 25% of the additional points would have been reasonable though 10% would likely have been more reasonable. As for complaining, we'll have to accept our account though I can't help but wonder how the issue came up to even have them consider the number of points issue. I'd encourage members to realize that view is the luck of the draw and not to put too much emphasis on the actual view from a unit. The only way to guarantee view is to buy a condo or fixed unit timeshare and even that isn't absolute.
