Got an awesome "wrong number" text

DH comes home from work today with a puzzled expression. He hands me his cell phone (one he never uses) where there is a text message he had just received. It was from somebody neither of us knew, and I can only guess it was not meant for him or me. What it was, was an expletive laden tirade from the sender, riddled with text speak and spelling errors (UR a blankety-blank and U wl alwsy B a blankety blank...) and so on. The ENTIRE gamut of swear words were included in this multi-page rage-fest, including some new ones I'd never come across.

DH and I have no problem with blue language. we LOVE working blue, but this was a vile, evil, hate filled text this person was sending to whomever was supposed to get it. I gleaned from the message that the sender must've been accused of somehow stealing the receiver's mother, and was unhappy about the accusations.

Anyhoo...so DH CALLS THE SENDER back to inform them that they must've had the wrong number and that the whomever was supposed to get the message did not. Naturally the person didn't answer their phone, so he left a message.

The BEST part? The voicemail prompt he got when he called.

"Hi, this is Theresa. I'm either at the church or unable to answer the phone right now, so leave a message and HAVE A BLESSED DAY."

Christians are human and as such have failings...bless her heart! lol

I would not have told them that they had the wrong number. That was an unintentional opportunity to help a conflict by simply saying nothing.

Not really.

A basic assumption is that the owner has possession of his/her phone. The small percentage of phones in the hands of someone who it doesn't belong to in all the world of cell phones is quite likely extremely small. Probably so small as to be statistically insignificant.

Hopefully she'll be completely mortified that a stranger read it.

Or at least, she'll double-check the number next time.

Oh man I could have had a lot of fun leaving her a voicemail! "Hi Teresa...you don't know me but I received a text message from you that I believe was in error. I'm really glad that you must be in church praying about your anger management problems and looking for guidence to help you clean up your language"....

ur dh should have left a voicemail saying he was the pastor from her church and she accidently sent him the text. Then say he's glad she is on her way to church and he will be waiting for her in the confession room-lol!

"Do you know Robert's number?"...then

"Can't go to the concert. My mom saw my progress report and is pissed at me."

Maybe, just maybe--Teresa's phone got stolen?


Much easier though to bash her for her pious voice mail greeting because it is just well...easier and the DISboard way. Because phones never, ever get stolen or used by other people.

The reason DH called to let her know she had the wrong number was because he didn't want to keep receiving texts from her in error. No idea if it was a mis-dial or if she actually had our number as the person's number.

As for the person who suggested that the sender may have had their phone used by someone else, I I gather that's something she'd probably like to know and will discover when she checks her voicemail. If it was stolen...well...nothing anyone can do then eh?

DH's message to her was pleasant and simply letting her know that she must've had the wrong number.
