Got a Nook!

on way to save on it is if you have a Discover card. If you shop at BandN through the discover card website, you get back a certain percentage in cashback bonus. It only works if you go through the Discover site, though

I know my nook only takes about 90 seconds to boot up when it's actually powered down, but in normal usage that doesn't happen! But it only takes 2-3 seconds to pop up to where I last was if it goes to sleep.

When mine is sleeping it only takes a couple seconds. From the "off" position though it takes about a minute. I admit, it's been annoying a few times to wait that long when I am trying to just read a few pages while waiting (like today at the orthodontist with dd!).

are you turning it off? there is no need for you to do that. Just leave it and it will go to sleep mode

Not to be a bearer of bad news but I think on the discover site it specifically said doesn't work on Nook and accessories. At least it did when I checked at the end of June.
But if you have enough cashback you can get the discounted Gift Cert for B&N and save 10% I think (get $50 GC for $45 cashback).

I travel so much I end up having to power mine down for takeoffs and landings. Plus, I don't always know when I'll have a minute to start reading again, so I typically turn it off rather than leave it in sleep mode. It helps that there's no appreciable wait difference between the off and sleep modes. I often use the 'text-to-speech' feature on my Kindle not to hear the books read aloud, but rather to mute the volume and have the pages turn automatically for me as I use the treadmill or elliptical, which I often do when I travel as opposed to running outside.

I was all set to buy the Kindle... after reading a couple threads on here, I think I've changed my mind and I'm going to go with a Nook. DH was unsure and once I explained the library e-books (our two local libraries have it and my brother can get a NYPL account for me as well).

So hopefully I'll be buying the Nook this weekend!!

OK, I know this is a bit of an OT.
But imagine what it'd be like to carry a flexible nook ... waaaaay in the future once they figure out how to make flexible screen for e-ink technology.

I'd personally prefer a Nook chip implantable in my brain so I can read all the time and carry nothing. think of all the times this would be great: when stuck in boring meetings, when stuck talking to a boring person at a dinner party, etc. No one would know!

I have grey and i'm not too wild about any of the other colors.
