A few weeks ago, I started a new job and I've now been out of training for a week. About a week ago, my father-in-law phoned me up and asked whether I would mind if he took my wife to Disneyland this coming Saturday for a couple of weeks, as he was already planning a trip with my brother-in-law Tim. He would have asked me to go as well, but I had just started a new job and he wasn't sure he would be able to afford to pay for my flight on top of everything anyway. I've been working for a while at another job as well, a day-trading company, but with the learning curve and no safety net, I've been without a paycheck for a while now. So unfortunately I couldn't help out with the trip. Both my wife and I are huge Disney fans and I thought it would be fantastic for her to be able to go, even if I couldn't.

Fast forward to today: we woke up early to head down to a travel agency to see what kind of prices we'd be looking at. We found out that it's actually going to be much cheaper to drive, even with the crazy gas prices and hotel stays on the way down and back. That's when my father-in-law started noticing that he'd be able to afford to take me as well, if I could get time off. Now, not only have I just started at this new company, there is a long weekend coming up which everyone has booked off and the department I'm in has been facing major staff shortages for the month of August. One persons father has taken ill and she is staying home to help him, one person is quitting in September anyway and is a bit iffy on whether he's going to show up for shifts or not and several vacations have already been scheduled for August. I had also gone into work earlier today to see if our Operations Manager was available to discuss this, but there were two other managers there who both shook their heads and said it wouldn't be likely but that I could come back and talk to the Ops Manager when he got in.

So, I headed to work later, pretty much expecting that I still wouldn't be able to go. No way is a new employee going to ask for and receive 2 weeks off shortly after starting! As I'm getting closer to the store, I notice a nice big Mickey-head aerial ornament on the car ahead of me and have to smile. It seemed to take forever to get to work today! I got to the Ops managers office and said "Um, I have a slight scheduling problem..." When I told him about the trip and the fact that I had been invited, his first words were "Cool! Sounds fun!" :woohoo: He said he was about to sit down and make up the schedule for August a bit later in the afternoon. I found out later that I was going to be on the trip during exactly the only time frame that we were a bit overstaffed!! I'm not sure what was worked out for the August long weekend, but I did talk to my co-workers before even asking for the time off, to see whether they would lynch me if I got it somehow, but they're a great group of people and were more than willing to help if they could! I'm sure I owe someone a huge favor.

So in conclusion....

I'm going back to Disneyland finally!!!!!! :dance3: :yay: :dance3: :woohoo:

I've been to Disneyland once before on our first wedding anniversary four years ago and we just got back from Disneyworld around this time last year. I've been to both parks once, but thought my next trip wasn't going to be until next March at the soonest! :goodvibes
