I leave work in the dark, kind of later on in the night.

We have a rather large parking lot, and also a parking garage.

While walking out with a nurse, she stopped for something in our lounge. I'm thinking "what the heck is she doing, LET'S GO!!!!)

I assumed she was getting a cup of coffee.

Nope! She stopped to get a cup of hot water (we have one of those instant hot water taps.)

She told me in the event that someone tried to mug her (or worse) she had scalding hot water to throw in their face!

I never would've thought to do that!

Just make sure you don't spill any on yourself!!

Another good tip I got years ago from a police officer, is to look under your car before you get to it.

I always have my keys grasped in a fist with the actual keys poking through between each fingers so if anyone comes up to me there gonna be scarred for life.

Great tip about the water...I wouldn't of thought of that either. Also for minivan and SUV drivers: Always check the back seats before getting in your vehicle. Some attackers look for unlocked vehicles, hide in the way back and wait for the person to drive away.

Good tips ladies. We should keep them coming.

There is a serial rapist loose at Ohio State. They have not been able to catch him. They police also think that there may be 2 different men.

The hot water would give you plenty of time to run screaming.

As DH is a police officer, he has rotating schedules. One night, back before we had kids and we lived in a ground floor apt, DD was at work. The dog woke me up growling as she lay on the bed with me. I heard a noise. As I looked around the bedroom, I saw our small household fire extenguisher against the wall and grab it taking aim at the doorway as it slowly opens. Luckilly I realized it was DH before I covered him in spray, but it did teach me a lesson. I do NOT want a gun around "for protection." Now with kids, I'm even more sure of that! But I do keep a fire extenguisher under my side of the bed at all times. Not only will I be prepared to take an intruder by surprise if needed, I am prepared to use it to go get my kids if a fire were to break out. Oh yeah, and if DH happens to be the sneaky intruder, he can survive my lather attack! And we'll probably laugh about it too! ;)

That water is a good tip, and the extinquisher too.

i do that with my keys too fantasia sam. :)

I work at a hospital and was recently threatened by an angry patient. I would never walk to my car with out security. I work until 1130pm at night and all the workers from the ed walk out together, or if you leave early security escorts you out.

I do the thing with my keys, too....I think I would worry about spilling the water since I can be a major klutz sometimes.

I do this all the time Sam.

My house is alarmed, but i also have a baseball bat under my bed, just incase. My hubby works away alot so it make me feel more secure. I also put my mobile by my bed even though we have a telephone on there too.
