Got a call from a new Guide

Just got off the phone with Jim. I'am happy to report any rumors of his demise are great over exaggerated. His approach to us was one of the reasons we bought @ DVC.

Jim McCoy is alive & well & still working as my guide! :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Yippee! I'm so happy to hear that - glad my skepticism was unfounded!

NOW ... what about the OP (can't remember who it was) - what's up with the call they got from someone else saying Jim was gone and they were the replacement? Are the guides poaching now?

We got a new guide too...the call came last night. Susan Schell has retired and we were reassigned to someone named Lisa. Susan had moved from WDW to CA a couple of years ago and our new guide is from CA as well.

Talked to my new guide today. He said if a member isn't contacted within two years, the computer assumes there is a concern and reassigns the account. He said this ensures members aren't left hanging if a guide is busy and unable to touch base with them.

I've been a member for over 10 years. I bought over the phone with a friend's guide (Bruce Ladd). He left DVC and I was reassigned to someone else (can't think of her name). I have only heard from her over the phone maybe 2 or 3 times, around the time BWV had more points available and when it was about to sellout again. I have no interest in adding on (what I have now is right for me) so that's fine with me. I still get automated mail from her, so I assume she's still my guide.

Jim is still around and you're allowed to request that he remain as your guide. It is honestly probably better to make this request now rather than down the road -- otherwise DVC is probably going to think that your new guide did something wrong which hopefully would not be the case! Just call Member Services and say that you would like to keep your same guide and not be reassigned, and they will honor the request.

We've had Betty Prykryl since our original DVC guide Bob Minnigan left and bought an OKW add-on and BWV through her and per this post it looks like she may be retiring or cutting back too.

I'm guessing that with the number of members growing, some movements of members will occur if DVC puts you in the "unlikely to buy more points anytime soon category" which is where we are at. A generic guide with a name like Tom Smith could service us and send the advance email before a visit and those voicemails when we're onsite welcoming us to come to the Visitor's Center :lmao:

I'm the OP and glad to see that Jim is still around. I don't know why we would have been assigned to a new guide (or even why the guide who called me said Jim was no longer at Disney). Looks like I'm going to make a call to Member Services tomorrow and see if I can request Jim back.
