Google Voice Still Free US/Canada Calls in 2013

how do you set up google voice? dh and I just got cell phones and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the landline....not sure I want to get rid of it for emergency calls (we still have little ones at home)

I have one of these for the house - Obitalk

http://www.amazon.com/OBi110-Servic...e=UTF8&qid=1356625856&sr=8-1&keywords=obitalk

Basically you plug that into your internet modem and then you plug your phone into the Obitalk. There is a set-up thing that walks you through hooking it up with Google Voice. It sounds a lot more complicated than it really was, the set-up guide was pretty easy to follow. Then you can go to the Google Voice website and configure that to also automatically forward all phone calls to whatever other phones you want, such as your cell phones. You can also set-up various call blocking options to filter out telemarketers and have all voice mails forwarded to you as emails, although their speech to text capabilities are really hilarious sometimes.

I use Google Voice for regular calls and then I pay a second service - Anveo - 80 cents a month to provide enhanced 911 service because Google Voice doesn't provide 911 dialing. Some people don't bother with that part and just rely on cell phones but we decided we wanted to keep 911 options.

Thanks for the heads-up. Dh uses GV for teleconferences so he doesn't tie up our home phone. Good to know he won't have to pay for it.....yet :)
