I can't get Google maps to show on my computer. It goes to the page and whatnot but the map itself won't show up. I can use Yahoo maps just fine. Any ideas of what I might need to install on my computer to get them to work--or any setting changes?? I am using Internet Explorer 8 if that makes a difference (with Vista). This was an old work computer that they wiped and reinstalled Vista so I can use it at home (Dell laptop).

Download Firefox or Google Chrome. I don't use IE for much anymore. Too many issues of not working right.

I also I would virus checks, malware checks on the computer to.

Weird - just letting you know I've been trying to get MapQuest to work for the last two days. I just get a generic "Site not found" message. I tried it on my phone (mobile version) and it's fine, and it even worked on my son's computer so I'm not sure what the deal is either.

Strangely enough though I've been using Google Maps instead which I normally never do in order to plan for our trip tomorrow!

bing has maps but you have to know the general area. They have better clarity but were off entirely. I found where I needed to go by using both of them.

I have Foxfire on our desktop. I could try Google Chrome but I don't know what that is (something like IE and Foxfire?). I don't think it is a virus or malware-maybe but I think I just don't have a program on this computer that is needed since everything was wiped off and only Vista reinstalled. I had to install all the drivers for the speakers, etc. when I got it home.

Did you try the troubleshooter?

Chrome is another web-browser, just like IE & FF.

javascript errors?

This is a fairly recent post on it (6 months):

There are a lot of possibilities mentioned, dealing with different browsers.

I went to the forum site and I got a notice that Javascript was either disabled or not supported by my browser--my guess is this is my problem. Any idea of how to enable this? Thanks.

I use firefox, I find mine by going to the top. I would assume IE would be something similar.

Tools>options>content>enable javascript

Java script isn't disabled by default on any browser I know of so it could be that your is corrupted. Go to the Java site and re-install the JRE library.

I have found Bing maps to be just as good as Google maps. If I am looking for someplace I have never been I use Google for Street View and Bing for the Birdseye view. It is better than aerial because it gives a better perspective.
