DH and I left our 18 year old boys at home to fend for themselves and we took off to DLR for almost 6 days. We arrived on Sunday and left on the next Saturday. Being Deluxe AP holders we were blocked out on Saturday so we decided to end our trip with breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen. At this point I have to say my Disneyland "snowball tendencies" kicked in- Since the PhotoPass Plus package we bought includes the pics from character meals, I thought we had to take full advantage of it. The question came up: would two adults dining alone enjoy a character meal? We decided to give it a try. DH loves breakfast food so that's why we chose Goofy's.

Goofy's Kicthen is in the Disneyland Hotel next to Steakhouse 55. You can also enter from the outside, just to the left of the check in area.

You check in and pay here and have your picture taken with Goofy in front of a kitchen background just to the left. We arrived for our 7:30am reservation and we warmly greeted by several people.

After the picture they take you to your table and a server will take your drink order. The glasses of juice are large and were refilled as needed. We were seated in a smaller corner of the restaurant near one other family. I wondered if we would be forgotten over there, but we weren't.

Breakfast at Goofy's is really brunch and I had heard there would be a lot choices but I didn't realize how many!

The right half of the hot food station. Different types of eggs were available.

The salad area. Also had green salad and lots of toppings.

The pizza area including the famous peanut butter and jelly pizza. I didn't try it though so can't say how it was.

And of course, the Mickey waffles!

Some desserts and cinnamon rolls.

The Oreo Mousse bars on the left were heavenly! My favorite thing there!

Soft serve ice cream was available with a variety of more unusual toppings.

The decorations are cute.

My first plate of food. I just took small amounts of different things so I would have room to try more. Over all the food was pretty good. I say good but not spectacular. The cinnamon rolls were a little dry and the potatos were harder than I liked. But with so many choices it would be hard not to find something yummy and it was fun to try different things. Like I said earlier, my favorite was the Oreo Mousse and I wished I had saved room for a second!

Now that we had our food, I wondered how the character interaction would be for two adults dining alone in the corner. Well, we spent about an hour there and we met every single character who was roaming the restaurant at that time. We took pictures with Baloo, Alice, Mulan, Chip, Dale, and Pluto. Often DH and I took turns taking pictures of each other but several times other people around offered to take our picture together. We didn't spend more than a minute with each character, but that is really all we wanted. We didn't need autographs, we just got fun pictures. We chatted a little and then they moved on.

Towards the end of our meal we were given our photo package that was included with our PhotoPass Plus. It was a cute booklet filled with recipe cards and pockets for our photos. One big one and several smaller. And, of course, we still had the digital copies on our PhotoPass card.

When we left, the people at the check in area asked how our meal was and wished us a good day. As we were leaving at 8:30am it began to get crowded so I was glad we went at 7:30am. We weren't ignored or made to feel like we didn't matter as much because we didn't have kids with us. I can now reccomend Goofy's Kitchen for a couple looking to add a little extra Dinsey magic (and probably a lot of Dinsey calories) to their trip. :goodvibes

Thank you so much for posting this review! My wife and I are thinking about making this a part of our trip and this would be the first time I have been without a kiddo in the group. I'm glad to see that you still received plenty of attention from the characters without any children there with you :cool1:.

Have you ever done Goofy's Kitchen for dinner? Thanks again for the great review!:thumbsup2

You're welcome! This was the first time we had ever been to Goofy's. I was thought a review would be helpful because I was wondering about it before we decided to go. Of course, this is only based on our one time experience, but I can say it was a good one. :)

My DH and I did Goofy's for an anniversary dinner last year, and we loved it. My DH is a picky eater, so this was perfect, because we could each have what we wanted. Our experience was like yours as well, but I also had the characters do the autographs. The Fairy Godmother signed our book "Happy 1st Anniversary!" So cool. We were also brought special cupcakes and "I'm Celebrating!" buttons at the end of our meal. (We were wearing the Happy Anniversary! buttons.

Oh and the PBJ pizza is amazing!

But we also have done Minnie's breakfast (which DH really loved, as he loves breakfast food) and Ariel's Grotto. My DH thought this was nice too (although he thought Snow White a bit thin, lol those dwarves are working her too much is what he said!) As I said he is a picky eater, but enjoyed his chicken. I had the tri-tip and really enjoyed that. DH also remarked that we looked like giants next to Ariel in our picture (we also had the PP+) who is gorgeous and petite, and has the most flawless skin. LOL.

Thanks for the insight on the dinners. That seems to mirror Tony's review on the podcast. Looks like it'll be added to the list:cool1:

Even as an adult, I always enjoy PB&J and while on our trip, I hadn't had any. When I saw the PB&J pizza I just had to try it.

Really unusual, but really great. I had two slices it was so good, but also so very filling.

IMHO, the most unusual breakfast offering was the hot dogs. :crazy2:

OWD

My Mom mentioned that her Dad used to make her PBJ omlettes when she was a kid, so of course, I had her make me one. It sounds weird, but its really good.

Yeah, I should have tried the PB&J pizza. There was just so much food. I love peanutbutter and chocolate, but PB&J sandwhiches aren't my favorite.

DH and I went to the Surf's Up breakfast at PP, and we had a great experience too! Food was really good, service was great and the characters were super friendly and funny.

Great! I'll keep that in mind too. Before I left I just didn't see much on here about only two adults at a character meal. I heard about adults going, but usually in a bigger group which changes the dynamics. I just wasn't sure what we would think, but we both had a good time.

Our boys have mostly avoided the chacters their entire lives, but they were so jealous when they saw the food pictures. And trust me, the way those boys eat, we would get our money's worth on just the food! :rotfl:

I'm glad to hear it was such a nice experience!

I just wanted to mention that you do a really nice job taking pictures of all the little details that I wish I could remember to capture. I think I took one picture of the GK sign and the rest were of our children with various characters. I just loved seeing the ones you included in your post :thumbsup2

Thanks! When I first saw all that food I said, "Wow!" and grabbed my camera before my plate. :rotfl:

Awesome thread and pics. Did you do any other buffets while at the park? My partner and I will be going back to DL in December and have been wondering whether or not to do Character meals . Will keep y'all posted how our experience goes.:thumbsup2

We DH and I have been to WDW many times (our first trip to DL is in October) and we do the character meals all the time! My DH says he loves talking with the characters about themselves and it helps him relax on vacation. He still talks about Chip and Dale at the Garden Grill on our trip in 2010. Dale claimed that Chip didn't practice proper hygiene. We really enjoyed it.

No, that was our only buffet and only character meal. And our first charcter meal. I can only say we had a good experience for our meal. I will say I'm glad we went at a non crowded time (7:30am) so there was only one other family near us. I would hope that couples would get just as much attention during busy times too. If it sound fun, you should give it a try. If you go somewhere I'd be interested to know how your experience was.

Do you see lots of couples at character meals in WDW? I never quite know what to say to characters. :scratchin

Sadly, no. While it wasn't at a meal, we told Merida in MK that she should have talked to Snow White about taking things from strangers in the woods. She laughed.

At Crystal Palace, we routinely ask Pooh Bear why he allows pork products to be placed on the buffet when Piglet is one of the guests of honor. This last time, I ratted him out to Piglet and Piglet went and kicked Pooh. My DH was also taking a picture of Piglet before he got to us and Piglet started posing for us. Hilarious!!!! We routinely ask Mickey and Donald when they're going to ask their girls to marry them. Another time when we were in line with Chip and Dale, they took DHs Donald hat and Chip held it out in front of him while he held his nose with the other hand. On our recent cruise, I convinced the C&D to pull on Donald's tail feathers when he wasn't looking. Finally, we encouraged bad behavior even further by buying small stuffed Chip, Dale and Donald animals. When we got to C&D, I pulled out the Chip one. Dale was so upset. Then I pulled out the Dale one and we were heroes. When we got to Donald, I pulled out the C&D ones and he covered his eyes and shook his head.

PS: There's a whole thread over on the WDW side (Theme Park Strategies) about what you should ask the characters.
