GOOFY Registration Available--Do the Half, Full, or BOTH

This isn't a thread about race shirts. It's about race transfers. Which aren't allowed, and anyone signing up for a race needs to know that. Imagine not being able to make it to an Ironman triathlon. Yep, that's $600 you won't see again. And can't transfer to next year. Can't transfer to another racer. Can't even get a spot held for the next year, which I think you can in this case (still have to pony up the entry fee). We deal with it. And try like heck to not get sick or hurt before the race.

And...they aren't "finisher" shirts, so that shouldn't even be an issue. I collected my shirts from when I wasn't able to complete Goofy 2 years ago. But I chose not to wear them. Whoever picked them up at Goodwill has the full and Goofy shirts.
If it was a "Finisher" Shirt, like at some other races, and some triathlons, then ... still, so what?

This thread is disappointing. I have been a loyal and supportive WISHer for a couple of years and to see some of the comments here is so sad.

I posted a thread trying to help someone who was locked out of the race. I didn't know it was not ok to do so. After I was informed that it was not ok, I followed up with Disney to check. And got bashed for that with sarcasm and snarkiness.

I then got bashed for wanting the shirts that I paid for. For what it's worth, yes, I want the shirts and here is why (even though it really isn't anyone's business):

I would LOVE to be participating this week-end. Trust me. I have been planning for this week-end for a long time. Unfortunately (as many of my WISHmates know), my youngest daughter is critically ill. I simply cannot leave her at this time. However, I will absolutely STILL be logging 13.1 miles on Saturday. At home, on my own, in support of my teammates who are running where I would love to be. Sorry if that means I didn't "earn it" in your eyes, hockeygirl (and others who might feel this way). I am addressing you personally since you found it necessary to make that a big deal.

Additionally, that shirt will serve to remind me that (1) I am part of a bigger team that is supportive of my love for running and my love for Disney, and (2) help keep me motivated in the hopes that next year I and my family will be in a better place and I will be able to participate.

You have clearly stated that you can't understand why anyone would dare to wear a shirt for a race they didn't do. Maybe now you understand why I WILL wear mine.

While I would never wish illness (or the illness of a child) on anyone, the one thing that my daughter's condition has given me is PERSPECTIVE. The issue being discussed here is SO trivial and meaningless in the larger picture. For those of you with nothing bigger in your lives to worry about--wonderful for you. I hope you never have to experience a true problem or crisis.

For those who have been understanding and supportive either here or via PM, I thank you. For those who disagree with what I have done but were able to disagree RESPECTFULLY, I also thank you.

For everyone else, no need to ask the mods to close this thread. I am done and won't comment here again. In fact, I am actually rethinking my commitment to WISH. Prior to this thread, I have found WISHers to be nothing but super supportive, friendly, helpful and wonderful. This thread has brought out a side of some of our teammates that I didn't know existed.

Best wishes to all who are running this week-end. I would love to be there with you and will be cheering you on from here.

Erika

Erika- I apologize if i offended you, as I was not aware of your situation in any way. I don't read these boards day in and day out so I miss a lot. please keep in mind that this does bother a lot of people, as has been seen in previous posts about this same topic. It is a hot topic. Just as I didn't know about your situation, you didn't know this was a hot topic. We are all entitled to our own opinions. In this situation, We can all agree to disagree i guess...hey that happens in life sometimes!

I truly hope your daughter gets better and you can make it to the races next year! Good Luck with your 13.1 this weekend!

Erika - I'm so sad to hear that - and you are right - dont let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch - I'm glad you were getting supportive PM's!

I offer you prayers, positive thoughts - and I thank you for running virtually with me! Its a tough road - I know all too well! Exactly a year ago my DS 20 at the time was also critically ill - 10 days in the hospital, not knowing for so much of it, wrong diagnosis... he couldnt read, write, loss of memory - it was horrible...

but - he recovered!! Thank God!! When we were exiting the Social Worker asked us all to make goals (before he was 100%!) His goal a triatholon (HE DID IT!!) and ours - this marathon!

And I am not trying to be a horses rear either but it is clearly stated by the race director that transfers are not allowed.

From WDWM:
TRANSFER POLICY
Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions will be made.
emphasis added

Erika is in fact generous but is in violation of her contract with the mouse by transfering a bib.

That's all. I know that the Mouse has ears (and eyes) and I really hate to see such violations of Disney policy endanger this board's reputation.

You are all assuming that cewalt's interpretation is the correct one. If you think analytically as an attorney (or MBA) is trained to do, you may interpret this statement differently. The statement never says that the transfer of a BIB NUMBER is not allowed. It says that the transfer of a registration fee is not allowed.

I hope this thread doesn't offend anyone else, and, cewalt, I'm not trying to jump on you, I'm just posing an alternate interpretation of a statement.

Seeing as how the person registered is the person who signs the waiver, it would be safe to assume that the RD (nor any insurance carriers affiliated with the event) does not want people who haven't signed a waiver out on the race course.

Sorry, but when you've done enough of these things, what they do mean is that the entry/bib is not transferable. Though I totally see how that wording is misleading.

It is quite unfortunate to not be able to run the event you paid for. And I've known people who ran under other people's bib number. But if anything happened (yes, slim chance, but people do die during marathons and half marathons...and it would not be unheard of for someone to turn an ankle, etc), it would be bad news for the bandit, the person they got the bib from, the race organization, etc.

Sorry!
and to the OP...I hope your kiddo gets better! Wear the shirt!

Erika, I'm so sorry to hear you won't be able to make it down this weekend, and I WISH you nothing but the best for your daughter.

ok folks....move on...everyone agree to disagree
