Hi WISHers--

I can't make it to Marathon Weekend (sad!) so my Goofy registration is available. The only thing I would ask in return is that you mail me the shirts.

My husband is registered for Half as well, and he won't be there either, so there is an additional Half registration up for grabs.

Feel free to PM me if interested.

Erika

Sorry, Disney and most other races specifically does not allow transfer of entrys to others

It's not a transfer. The person would just run wearing my bib. Not cheating Disney at all. One person paid to run, and one person would be running. And again, I am not looking for the person to even pay me back.

Of the many thousands that race Disney every year, a good number are running wearing someone else's bib. Even WISHers. ;) :goodvibes

Sorry, I have reported this to the moderators. It is a transfer.

I don't know about all this or what you mean, but I was asking (generous) Erika about the half bib

And I am not trying to be a horses rear either but it is clearly stated by the race director that transfers are not allowed.

From WDWM:

TRANSFER POLICY
Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions will be made.
emphasis added

Erika is in fact generous but is in violation of her contract with the mouse by transfering a bib.

That's all. I know that the Mouse has ears (and eyes) and I really hate to see such violations of Disney policy endanger this board's reputation.

But Disney often seems to violate their own contract with what they allow during races so this clause is probably so they don't get sued if someone gets hurt who has a transferred bib.

Hmmm, interesting you mention this. 2007 Disney Marathon was a scorcher, I would have like some water, any water, at the waterstops from mile 18 on. Unfortunately the mouse didn't come through for me then.:sad2:

Exactly. Part of your entry fee pays insurance for you the holder of the bib. You get injured as a pirate runner, you have no coverage. Think entry fees are high now, let a pirate runner with a litigious next of kin die during the race and fees escalate or even worse this thing ends in a hurry.

In all seriousness I think the no transfer policy is a dumb throwback to the days of paper entries. I think race directors miss a possible income stream by not allowing transfers. What I do not know is if this policy may be driven by the insurer as much as the RD. But in saying this, the policy is the policy. As long as it is the policy we have agreed to that policy when we push the money across the table.

WOW, this certainly caused some discussion. It was never my intention to start a major issue here.

And FWIW, the way I got the idea to let someone run in my place was from here on the DIS in past years. I have always seen posts like this--DISers saying that they can't race and offering their bib up to someone who got locked out once the race filled.

So. I called Disney Endurance and explained the situation to the CM on the phone. Very nice, as most CMs are, but seemed a bit confused about why I was calling. I patiently explained the situation two times--still was confused--and tried a third time.

End result--as long as I personally am not profiting from the race bib, the CM didn't see an issue. Go figure--as long as Disney feels that no one is making money off of them, they don't have an issue.

I tend to agree with previous posters--this is likely about insurance and liability.

But as long as I have Disney's blessing on this, I feel ok moving forward.

I bet the CM never understood what you are doing. And it is not their call, it is up to the RD and I agree with Charles' statements regarding insurance, etc.

Does it happen? Yes. That doesn't make it right, and I agree this thread should be pulled just as one might regarding other ways to cheat at Disney.

In some other types of races (triathlon), if you are caught at this, you are banned for a year or more.

And we all know that CM's always give the right answer the 1st time so after 3 explanations its definitely bank worthy...:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

It's against the rules anyway you slice but as long the person's running the 1/2 are slower than I, I am not affected... :lmao:

Like I tell my students at school....just because somebody else does something, doesn't mean it is right!! A rule is a rule and it should be followed. If everyone broke the rules, imagine how crazy things would get!

What I don't get is why on earth someone would want the shirts from a race that they are not even going to be running. Those shirts are for people that are actually completing the races!!

This has been a hot topic on these boards before! The minute I saw this post I had to resist busting out the popcorn smiley to watch the action.

But as long as I have Disney's blessing on this, I feel ok moving forward.

It is great that you want someone else to benefit from your unfortunate trip cancellation. I don't think that the CM that answered the phone has the authority to make an exception to posted Disney race policy however, whether they understood your situation or not. I know that bib transfers do happen, and despite the reason why the "no transfer" policy is in effect (insurance, liability), doing what you want to do is in fact against the policy.

Whatever you decide to do is of course your own business, but I don't think you have Disney's blessing to do something that is in direct conflict with their stated policy. Good luck and I'm sorry you and your family can't make the race!

I'm sorry you cant make the race.

I am not going to judge - you called Disney, and that's should be the end of the discussion.

I hope others wont judge and pile on, I know there was a closed thread about the "ethics"...

Uh, I can see why someone would want the shirts they PAID for. I signed up for the half and then was diagnosed with arthritis in my knee so I won't be running. It kills me to lose that money but at least I can recoup a little on the shirt I PAID for. Thats why I am gonna go get my shirt and wear it, you betcha.

To each his own I guess.....personally, I would never wear the shirts unless I actually started the race and participated. Oh well...i guess it is all a matter of personal opinion.

Yep I will be wearing mine around the house for pajamas. You don't approve? Don't care!

You can do whatever you want, as i stated it is a matter of personal opinion. You stated yours and i stated mine. No need to be rude!
