The Day of Departure:
9/12/05

Scene 1: Cincinnati Airport 1:00 p.m. EDT

We actually got through security with flying colors and in record time. It takes some effort to get the girls out of their strollers and through the checkpoint with all the carryons of stuffyfluffies and books and snacks and medicine etc… But today was very smooth.

The Cincinnati Airport is a “modern” airport which means that it is a long way from one end to the other and if you are so lucky to fly out of concourse C you have to take a shuttle to get there from the terminal. But we still managed to get to our gate 40 minutes early.

The flight was on Delta’s Canadair Regional Jet, a small plane (50 seater) But with two small kids it was nice. We had managed to get a CHEAP fare about six months in advance and not have the pending cutbacks at Delta impact our flight.

The girls were amazing on the flight down. I actually got to read most of the DaVinci Code during the flight they were so good! Smooth and uneventful flight.

Scene 2: Orlando Airport 4:44 p.m. EDT

We had a necessary potty break and then headed to get our luggage. I took Zoe with me to get the rental car and Michelle and Amanda waited for the luggage. I had made reservations with both Alamo and Dollar with the idea that whichever line was shorter would be the one we would take.

Dollar was deserted so I proceeded to get the car. No I do not want insurance. No I do not want insurance. No I do not want insurance. Finally the attendant got the idea and processed the rental. I had managed to get a pretty good rate ($105.00/week for midsize) but somehow we actually got it for $99/week plus fees. We hadn’t paid so little since before the girls were born. ( A Hurricane Floyd special in 1999)

As we were done getting the paperwork for the car and chasing Zoe toward the elevator, Michelle and Amanda were observed strolling down the aisle with the luggage. It couldn’t have been better timed if it were planned.

We proceeded to get the car and determined that Rachel, the Dollar counter worker, knew that we needed the exercise and gave us a car at the furthest possible location possible in the garage. Z99 or something like that. But we did find it after crossing into a new time zone, a silver Dodge Stratus just like “gramma and papa’s car”. It held all of the stuffyfluffys as well as children, parents, luggage, and strollers. We were on our way.

Scene 3: Disney’s Pop Century Resort 5:53 p.m. EDT

After entering the line to check-in which consisted of enough people to fill a…wait there is no one else in line but us? Where are they? Who cares. We checked in and then meandered to the 70’s section building A. I think the rooms were 128 and 129. They were very close to just about everything. We got two rooms simply because we like the girls to have their own beds and we sleep a heck of a lot better that way! We through down our luggage and headed to the food court to eat.

We had finally decided to take advantage of “Free Dining” or “stuff yourself silly for a good value” so we decided to try it our that evening. We fed all four of us with three meals and still had food left over. The girls then got their supply of stickers which proceeded to moisten and fall off in Goofy’s sprayground.

We got the girls in bed around 9:00 p.m. and I proceeded to annoy my wife my flipping though the amazing number of channels you get in a Disney Resort (is it 3 or 4?) about a billion times and then took a shower and got ready for the adventures to begin.

Tomorrow: Lunch with the Princesses and Dumbo or Die!
