Goofy 2015

oooh..I like that. I think I might do it. It keeps my weekday mileage which is good since it's hard for me to get long runs in during the week. And I'll probably push the Saturdays to Sundays and the Wednesdays to Saturdays. Thanks for the idea!

:thumbsup2 I had someone on this very board tell me it wouldn't be enough (still a teeny bit bitter about it :goodvibes) - Coach Charles was kind enough to reach out to me and look over the plan. He gave it the okay, which was good enough for me! :goodvibes

I successfully finished both races and was still able to have a life while training. Almost every weekend was a "Goofy simulation" (long run on Sunday after running half of that on Saturday) but that was just because it worked better with my schedule. I don't think I needed to do that every weekend. :confused3

The half went great...around the halfway point in the full my feet really cramped up, which both my brother (a RN) and another nurse friend told me was probably a low sodium issue. It makes sense to me since there was a heat advisory that weekend and I was sweating buckets.

ANYWAY...I always run a pretty relaxed pace at Disney races since I stop for ALL OF THE PHOTOS but despite that I still managed to PR in the marathon by 20 minutes. And that was beating my 2012 marathon time, which was when I ran the marathon only, without doing the half the day before.

I just don't think I'm cut out for more than 40 MPW...just not something I'm interested in. :confused3 I like to leave 2 other days to strength train and 1 full rest day. I'm planning on using Higdon's Dopey plan this year and it tops out at a 42-mile week, and I am sure it'll get my prepared. :goodvibes

I have links to my training report and my Goofy report in my signature if you're interested! :)

40 is more than enough. I don't think I got over 40 in a week last year including the 20 mile run weeks. I believe I only did 2 back to back runs the whole training program as well (did Dopey)

Agreed!!! :thumbsup2

I wouldn't have done as many back-to-backs except that it just worked better with my schedule. :confused3 I would have preferred to only do a few like you did...that's probably way safer.

Hey I am back and thanks for the kind words....

I think a lot of runners forget that the Goofy and Dopey are really 2 or 4 training runs... that's it. Making more than a couple back to back runs for 80% of the participants is a little overkill - all one needs to nderstand is that the legs will feel a little rubbery during the first couple miles of the marathon.

After 30 minutes of running the rundisney.com gaunlet, I'm in for Goofy number 3.

I have a 30 week plan from last year that took me through Dumbo, into an October marathon, and then into Goofy. It started after a previous half marathon in May. I also have a 40ish week plan from 2012 that went from March all the way to Goofy, with a July half marathon and a September marathon. For the 2012 one, I was coming back from a broken ankle, so it ramps up slowly (my Dr approved :thumbsup2 ). Both are based on Hal Higdon's plans. I put the medium run and the long run back to back for the last few months between the marathon and the Goofy, but run them both at long run pace. I'm also liberal about dropping a medium length run if I can tell I'm worn out.

Here is a link to my plans (don't know if it will work or not). Feel free to take a look, and remember that they are worth what you paid for them :)

I am registered for Goofy 2015. Probably against my better judgement, lol. The ten year medal....and I am turning 30 this year so I guess I will go all out.:thumbsup2

Count me in as registered for Goofy. I ran my first full this year at Disney, and I will run my second one at Disney.

DH and I are in for Goofy.

Our training plan has 3 back to backs. I was worried if that was enough, so I appreciate hearing the confirmation that we should be fine.

That's plenty. I've never done any back to backs for Goofy, though I'm doing plenty of them for Comrades. :)

What plan are ya'll using?

We've just adapted from Galloway's year-round plan and Goofy plan. We've tried to overlay three different schedules basically since we are training for a marathon in November and then Goofy and wanting to do a year-round plan. I got a massive headache putting it together. :lmao: I think Galloway actually calls for 4 or 5 back to backs and with our other training, there just was no good way to fit those in, so we scaled back. We also don't usually go the full distance in a training run like Galloway advocates. We'll top out around 22-24 miles on a single run.

My brother and I were going to register for the dopey challenge but we were both working today and by the time I could look to register it was all sold out. Are there any other ways to still sign up outside of the $1,000 charity sign ups?

In the past, I've been able to register through one of the preferred Disney travel partners. I didn't even have to book any travel through them. I would move quickly though. The list is on the rundisney site.

Ok..good! I trust Coach! He hasn't steered me wrong yet!

Thanks! I'll check them out!

In for Goofy here. Excited and terrified (in a healthy way) and having all the good feels! Can't wait to learn from the experienced Goofs around here!

Any idea why the status for the Goofy isn't listed on the RunDisney site? Am I missing something? Everything is sold out except for the Marathon, but the Goofy isn't listed.

They only list races when they are at half capacity or higher.

The statuses only pop up when the races are 50% full, so Goofy is seemingly not 50% full yet. :)

I guess most people that wanted to go Goofy decided, why not, and went for Dopey instead. ???
