Hosting a Survivor-themed birthday and in need of affordable goody bag ideas. (Survivor the reality game show). We will be doing lots of obstacle course and puzzle challenges and will be give each child a "buff" (like a bandana) to designate teams. I still feel like I need to do some kind of goody bag. But its a large crowd (30+ kids) and so I need affordable ideas. I like to keep things themed when possible. Suggestions welcome!

Cute idea! A torch (small flashlight), a little puzzle, chocolate bars with a custom-printed wrapper - you can do these yourself - with the Survivor logo and the birthday child's name.

If you have that many kids, maybe consider skipping the goody bag. I end up throwing pretty much all of that stuff out. It always seems like a waste. Your party sounds like SO much fun. The exciting activities will make the party. I doubt the kids would even give a second thought to favors.

The first thing that came to my mind was "gummi-worms" as a nod to the "gross-foods" eating contests.

Do you have plans on doing a hidden immunity idol? perhaps a "nicer" stash of treats?

The last party my oldest had, we invited all boy scouts, and I put scout themed items in a re-usable half liter water bottle (walmart brand). I put in:

~ single serve flavor packets (like Crystal Light)
~ granola bars
~ trail mix
~ emergency whistle (you can get the 4/$1 party favor type)
~ band-aids
~ signal mirror

You can hit Big Lots for flavor packets, beef jerky/slim jims, dried fruit/raisins. You can also sub inexpensive fruit snacks for dried fruit.

Walmart has cheap party whistles and store brand trail mix in single serve packets.

You can make your own "signal mirrors" with cardboard and aluminum foil.

We will be doing "immunity" challenges (with the WINNING team going to tribal council to vote for MVP of the challenge) and "reward" challenges (maybe the winning tribe gets in line first for food, or gets a couple chocolate bars to split up?). I had wanted to include a gross food eating contest (jello formed in straws comes out like worms, raisinettes can be called rat droppings, etc.) Also considered gummy worms or gummy bugs in the favor bags. My DD loves to give out goody bags... so I go back and forth between thinking I dont need them, to trying to do them on-the-cheap just for the sake of sending them home with something.

Cyndi- great ideas. How much were the water bottles at Wal-Mart? Perhaps I could skip the idea to fill them and let them use them during the party, personalizing them. The survivor contestants on TV always have their own water bottles. At least that would be a useful take-away.

They were about $3 each, 3 yrs ago. For the number of kids you have, maybe something like these would be better at around $1 ea:

Then you attach WM brand water bottles, maybe with homemade labels just for the party.

Or, make your own / let them make their own: http://spoonful.com/crafts/water-bottle-holder

What about a scavenger hunt as part of the immunity challenge? Then they keep the items they are able to find. And simple things like a magnifying glass, granola bar and a small torch. Just a few items since you have so many coming.

I know a lot of people hate the goody bag thing, but I love them and think they are a must, even if they are just a small token to say thank you to your guests. You have been given some great ideas and you can really do this for $1 a bag and make it special. The bags themselves can be had for 30 for $1 at our Dollarama (Canadian), and I know you can get the same in the U.S. Solid color cellophane with twist ties included. Give them at the start of the party and include the following:

- bottle of water with custom label (done yourself or can get on Etsy)
- chocolate bar or granola bar with custom label (as above)
- gum
- gummy worms (pp idea)
- bandaids (another pp idea)
- trail mix made by you, which can also have a custom bag topper
- whistle is also another great pp idea
- if you are having a fire later, how about just a home made smores kit?

If you haven't done so already, check out birthdaypartyideas.com for some great Survivor party ideas, including goody bags. Have fun!

To me the Buff would be the 'take home gift'. I would not do bags.

As my kids got older, we stopped doing Goody Bags and sent home something that they used or made at the party instead. Pool party=Noodle; Luau party=decorated flip flops; Beyblade party=Beyblade
