We don't need many groceries. Mainly bottled water, some juice boxes, cheese, milk, and maybe a loaf of bread. Will Publix save me much money? There are only 2 of us so the quantities will be fairly small.

Thanks, T&B

Couldn't quote an exact price, but yes...it is more expensive than Publix.

Goodings would be more expensive but I still like stopping there. It isn't crowded and I like the selections in the deli area for snacks and lunches.

I know that we shopped at Goodings before, but it's been years. I do remember a nice selection of food, especially already cut fruit, etc (that was before that type of thing was as common as it is today). I bet my kids also remember the nice candy section.

I just don't want to spend a lot more for the water, milk, etc than Publix.

How would I get to Goodings from Pop Century (I have Publix directions)?

T&B

I cant tell you exactly how to get to Goodings but it is at the end of the road that goes in front of Downtown Disney. Crossroads Center starts at the end of that road.

Now if you take that road towards Goodings but make a LEFT instead of heading into Crossroads, you will find a Winn Dixie, about 2-5 minutes on your right, as well as a ABC Liquors. If you fill out the form for the super saver card, you can get in store coupons. (and if you forget your card on your next trip, you just have to give them your phone number... even an out of state one)

From Pop Century, Publix is easier to get to. Goodings is more expensive than Publix, although I'm not sure how much. I do know that I went to Goodings ONCE, looked at the prices and turned right around and left without buying anything. In general, everything in the 535 Disney/Lake Buena Vista area is more expensive. Gas is usually 20-30 cents more a gallon than places 5 miles down the road. It is a tourist trap, and it works  Goodings is a nice store, but you are definitely paying more $ to pay for those indoor fountains and carpeting. They have a lot of "specialty" food from other countries, like England. Again, catering to the tourists.

Go to Publix on S. International Dr., it's cheaper and closer.

We enjoyed shopping and browsing at Goodings and it was a treat even though the prices are a bit higher. I'd shop here if just getting a few things or looking for some fun things to add in but if I was staying at a place with a kitchen and planning on cooking a lot of food I'd go to a regular grocery perhaps. In fact we usually just buy our milk and other stuff at the resort cause we drive and can bring many of the items you mentioned with us from home.

Well, here's an example: Bought last month.

6 pack bottled coke $2.99 at Winn Dixie just North of Goodings

Goodings $5.99 for same item.

herc.

We paid $9 for a gallon of orange juice. Didn't realize it till later when I read the receipt.

Goodings is ALOT more expensive. When we went in August, our normal Publix was closed due to a hurricane. I went into Goodings and walked out without buying anything. Soda and water was 2 to 3 dollars more expensive per pack.

Ended up going to Winn Dixie about a mile from Goodings. Good, cheap grocery store that had all of the staples we wanted. I am more than willing to pay a premium for certain things (I visit WDW every year so have become immune to high prices :earboy2: :earboy2: :earboy2: ) but not that much of a premium at a grocery store.

There is also a Super Target on 192 just east of 535. WE shopped there last week & last month. It is in the area of the road construction, but there is a traffic light for that shopping center.

Yikes, sounds like Goodings is a lot more. I'll try to stop at the grocery on my way to Pop from the airport. That way I can easily go to Publix or Winn-Dixie and won't be tempted to skip the grocery store all together like I could be once I get on Disney property.

Thanks! T&B

The Unofficial Guide has a page comparing prices of a list of commonly purchased items at two local supermarket chains. I'm at work (shh!) so I don't have the book with me and I'm not positive if it compares Goodings with Publix or one of those two with Winn Dixie, but it might give you some idea, in any case.
