Starting this week, I'm sending all my laundry out! Every last sock, every last pair of skivvies, all going to the cleaners. We moved from NJ to NYC and kissed our in-home washer and dryer goodbye ... so I priced out doing the laundry by myself (plus the value of my time) versus sending it out, as as it turns out, in NYC, the difference was negligible! Bye bye washer ... bye bye dryer ... I won't miss you ... and I'm no liar! ... :)

Oooooh. I'm so jealous. I can't tell you how much time I spend doing laundry that could be spent on other things. Good luck on your move. I LOVE NYC!:sunny:

have the laundromats really changed that much? when I was young and single and living in the city, it used to cost almost double the price of doing it yourself to have the laundry do it for you.

of course, since it was just me, it was worth the extra $$$ to have them do the job.

Wow!!!! What a huge chunk of time you save!!!!

My DH had a roommate years ago when they were young and living in Boston who used to do his laundry like every 6 months. He had enough socks and underwear to last 6 months, and all he wore were khaki-colored pants(cotton for summer, corduroy for winter), white oxford shirts. He had a closet where he'd keep all the dirty clothes, and every 6 months he'd pack them up in garbage bags, take them to the laundrymat at like 5AM, fill up all the washers, then fill up all the dryers. He literally did 6 months worth of laundry in like 3 hours.

who knew you could do that????

GOOD FOR YOU!!!

i'm too anal about my clothes for something like that. :o :p

Sounds like a great plan! But unfortuantely, I just bought a new dryer yesterday so it looks like Ill be doing laundry for a while longer. ;)

I did not think I was anal about my laundry until I did send it out for a while. We lived temporatily without a washer dryer, and I also discovered it was not all that more costly to send it out than to haul my butt to the laundry to do it myself.

Unfortunately they did a lousy job. Not to mention that our things were being laundered with other people's things which totally grossed out my husband. Now you want to talk about anal !!!!!!! He gets the prize !

danacara,

You are in an urban setting, I was pretty rural, about 90 minutes from NYC. So I suspect that you will not have the same problem I encountered since you will have competitive laundries to selet from.

I say good for you !! Enjoy laundry freedom. Personally if I won a million bucks I would hire someone to change and iron my sheets each day.

I send mine out ...except for underwear they might charge me extra for those
