Good vacation but sad return

We just returned from our 9 day disney trip and got home about 12:30am this morning and I walked in the door and my cat Twinkie was curled up in his favorite bed and had passed away while we were gone . I am just so devestated!!!! Twinkie was such a sweet boy and was like no other cat I had EVER had in my life. I just felt so soooo bad that we weren't here when he passed. I can't stop crying Everytime I see his picture around the house I start crying What I can't understand is, he was playing around and his old self the night before we left and I had my mother in law come and check on them while we were gone and she said he was fine. we think he was around 9 or 10 so maybe it was his time to go. we think and hope that he passed away while he was sleeping because he was all curled up in his cat bed and his head was resting on his paws when we found him. I knew it wasn't going to be easy when he passed but I never thought it would be this hard for me.

I'm glad to hear you had a good trip and am so sorry to hear that you had to come home and find out that your kitty was gone. We had two cats, our old man kitty and a young cat. Last summer they both died and it was hard for the whole family. We now have a great new kitten but still miss Figaro and Smokey very much.

I am so sorry! I know how hard it is.

Last February, I came home from a week-long trip to Disneyland (husband stayed home). My dog had passed away earlier that day. I was so devastated...and to be honest, I still am. Your post brought tears to my eyes, because I know how you feel. Although it was apparently my dog's time to go, but I really felt like I should have been there. I had her since she was a puppy and I loved her so much.

I can tell you love your cat very much too. Take comfort in knowing that you gave your cat a wonderful life.

it wasnt disneyland but i was at girl scout camp,
when i came back my dog was sick, she was hiding up under the table and we came to find out she had antifrezze poisning and she had to be put to sleep before hand *hugs* to you and you'll family

I feel really sorry. I also used to have a cat and when it passed I felt devastated and cried for days. I know exactly how you feel. Maybe if you had been there it woud've been more painful for you and the others and since he passed away in such a peaceful way, you should find some comfort there.

Soo sorry to hear about Twinkie... It's never easy when our pets leave us... I have had a rough day myself.. Hubby is away, so this morning the kids and I went out to feed/water the animals before school and I noticed that our goat, Nanny was still sleeping... Well, I thought she was sleeping.. Poor girl passed away sometime during the night.... It's been a rough day...

Thank you to everyone for your kind and comforting words. I thought I would be okay when going back to work today but it seems like everytime I looked at him in the pictures I have on my desk at school I would cry I try to stop myself so the kids at school wouldn't see me. I also started to cry on the way home listening to christmas music knowing that this would be our first christmas since he was a baby without him. OH GOSH!!! I REALLY MISS HIM!!!!!! I know this is going to sound completly nuts but, I hope he wasn't mad at us for not being with him when he died. I've been having to deal with the guilt and it kills me inside to the point where I haven't really been able to eat. I HATE BEING SO SENSITIVE!!! I wish I would have known because honestly, I would have cancelled the trip to be with him if I would have known!

Awwww, you can't beat yourself up like that. There is no way you could have known. Shoot, he probably didn't even know.

I am so, so sorry that you had to end your Disney trip with such a sad event. Losing a pet is incredibly difficult, I know. Especially one you've had for so long. My Danny cat was 14 when I lost him last year. I still miss him. Hugs to you and your family.
