Good times to do Disneyland

My husband and I just returned from the World. We went 3 times in the last 12 months and now DH wants to try Disneyland. We don't plan to go back to the world until Jan 2013.

So when would be a good time to try Disneyland? I normally had done Disneyworld in late September/early Oct. or Jan. When would be a good time for not to heavy crowds etc?

Late September would be good. It will have Halloween decorations and nice weather. October is when the parties start and it get increasingly busy through the month.

January is nice crowd wise if you wait for the Holiday season to end and avoid the three day weekend. But I would skip it this year, since Disney California Adventure is getting a big rehab/expansion it would be better to come in the Fall. It can also be cool and rainy.

One thing to know is during these offseason times, major rehabs are likely. Also major entertainment is mostly limited to a Friday, Saturday and Sunday schedule.

Also as you plan read this link, it's the DLR guide for WDW vets.

I'm a big fan of the time between the week after Thanksgiving and the week before Christmas.

I agree with skiingfast. One needs to decide if lower crowds is more important than few rehabs, longer hours & more entertainment.

I also agree that reading Hydroguy's link (actually you should read all of his tip threads) would be helpful for the first time DLR visitor. Have fun researching a possible visit to Walt's Park.

:)

I have to chime in and agree with the above about late September. Be prepared for closures, and holiday haunted mansion, but enjoy the weather and low crowds. I just got back on Friday and loved our time there!:cool1:

Unfortunately my husband works retail. this is a really hard time to get off of work for a day or two nevermind a week. (Actually how long do you even need for Disneyland)

I would be ok with a few rehabs. I'm used to them at WDW when I go and my husband gets really grouchy if he is hot and crowded (slightly claustrophobic)

I LOVED our mid-September trip, right near when all the Halloween decor went up for the first day. Mickey's party hasn't started yet (so no early closures at DL) but you still get to see the holiday overlays at Space Mtn and Haunted Mansion. Crowds were moderate-sized but the two closures we had were Screamin' (oh darn!) and POTC (double darn!). Those are great rides, but given the low crowds and resulting enjoyment factor, I was fine with missing out on them.

I'd stick with the second half of September. In the first two week Haunted Mansion closes. In the second week Space close two. These both receive overlays and reopen for the Halloween season.

We have gone the last week of April and first week of May. They were both great trips. Crowd levels were lighter the beginning of the week and got progressively busier but nothing our family of 7 couldn't handle! Weather was great too! Very little closures that I remember! Good Luck! :goodvibes
