I am going to WDW the last week in August of this year...

Has anyone been there during that time? Any tips? How are the crowds? :earsboy:

I traveled to WDW the last week of August 5+ years ago, and the crowds were very light. Many schools in the south begin in mid-August, so all of the locals aren't there. However, Free Dining might impact the crowd levels.

Can someone who traveled this time last year comment on crowd levels?

We went the last week in August 2006 and I would say the crowds were relatively light, I think our longest wait was 30 minutes for BTMR & Peter Pan but if you know how to take advantage of the fast pass the lines were minimal. As a matter of fact we are going again the last week of August this year. It definitely was warm - tough to finish all those Mickey Head ice creams before making a mess. But worth it. See ya there..........

We went the last week in August 2006 during the free dining promo. It was so great we are going back the same week this year!!:) The crowds for us were VERY light. We walked onto pretty much everything, The only thing there was a slight wait for was POTC (LOL if you call 15 minutes a wait!). We were very lucky with the crowd level. I will say though that is was very hot - temps were about 92 everyday which doesn't sound that bad but.....boy was it HOT!! It was totally doable though w/ the mister fans and afternoon breaks. My kids wouldn't have it any other way - they loved going back to the hotel for an afternoon swim. The light crowds and free dining make it totally worthwhile. I will probably always travel at this time of year. I love it!!:)

August - we're talking wring the sweat out of your clothes hot. "It ain't the heat, it's the humidity." Temps in the low to mid 90s, humidity levels about the same. And don't forget those daily afternoon thunderstorms that usually pass quickly but leave the sidewalks steaming.
If you enjoy hot weather (can you tell that I don't?) you should be okay. Wear a hat and sunscreen, bring some bottled water in with you that you can refill at the water fountains, and stay hydrated. Try to be patient because the heat makes some people cranky, so take a break during mid-day and go back to your resort for a swim or a cool nap.

I will also be there the last week of August (27th-Sept 1st) and I can't wait!
I worry more about my boyfriend than about me in the heat, (he sweats alot!). Would you suggest packing multiple tshirts a day for him?
We plan on bringing misters and water, and having plenty of sunscreen...as well as spending a lot of time in the waterparks and pool!

The florida heat can be brutal. Whenever I go to Disney I try to dress as light as possible. I also wear light color clothing. I never wear black since it attracks heat. Florida in August can be brutal!

That sounds like a pretty nice time to go.
I have a feeling there would be a number of college students since a lot of colleges don't start the fall semester until sometime in September. I'd definitely go!

I am thinking of going the end of September or maybe even in November. I hope thats a good time? TIA :thumbsup2

You have great idea's! We ship water ahead of time (my DH refuses to even brush his teeth with the water never mind drink it. I think its fine. We save $$ by shipping it ahead because buying what we all drink each day gets crazy!
We ALWAYS bring extra shirts for each day.
Have a wonderful time!
