So I just spent my summer traveling and found amazing thrift stores in the cities we visited. It made me wonder what I'm missing back here in Cleveland. I've been to the Sal Val on Mayfield as well as the Goodwill in Shaker Heights and I never seem to have any luck. I rarely find anything worthwhile or it always seems overpriced for the quality/condition. In Harrisburg, PA I found this amazing store called Community Aid and then in Winston Salem a resale shop that I want to go back for alone. haha

Any suggestions for stores other than Sal Val or Goodwill? Any locations elsewhere in Cleveland that you like that might be worth the drive?

I've only been to Cleveland once (stopped at the zoo for a little R&R on a road trip this summer.) However, we went to one Goodwill where we got some really good stuff- American Girl and Hanna Andersson dresses- so many we actually left some there. They were more than kids clothes at our loal GW, but still a bargain for that they were. I even took DD's picture out front, though- disclaimer DH works for Goodwill so this was a how many GW can we hit on the cross country drive adventure. :)

I, however, couldn't tell you where exactly it was. It was a smaller store, in a small strip mall. The extra wierd thing was the oo's in Good were connected like wedding rings, lol.

(I guess this is a good time to define what sort of stuff you're looking for, but DD was thrilled with what we got there! )

Kids stuff. Ooooo I love Hannah Anderson. My MIL is wicked for introducing me to the brand. haha I have a DD who is 20 months and a little boy on the way so I'm trying to save some money on their winter wardrobes.

I was going to recommend the Goodwill in Shaker.. (former Shaker Heights resident).

I want to say there used to be a thrift store in Beachwood. Now I haven't lived there in many years, but I do recall one there.

Did you try looking online at areas like Orange, Pepper Pike or Chagrin Falls? I loved Chagrin Falls.. and miss it all the time!

If you are willing to go to the West side, try Lakewood.

west of cleveland, try in the avon/avon lake area and I want to say closer to north ridgeville. My mother always hits these places and finds name brand clothing, sometimes with the tags still on. She works as a counselor for catholic charities, helping people get back on their feet. She is always find great deals on clothes for the kids.

This will also sound kind of weird but she delivers pizzas in the evenings to make ends meet, in the Avon/Avon Lake/Ridgeville area. She said some of those neighborhoods, they are always throwing out stuff--nice stuff with nothing wrong with it. She has helped her clients furnish homes that way and found the little tykes kitchens and play-sets for them. Not the large play-sets, but the slides and smaller things like that. She has a limited budget that she is allowed to spend, so finding things like this help her/them out a lot. She has even found newer vacuums that only needed a belt change.
