Good thoughts and prayers for Lisa and Paul Tully

Hello everyone, Paul here! Its been an interesting couple of days. Honestly I thought I was having a bad case of GERD which I sometimes get occasionally. Not the adventure I signed up for and would have gladly given it up for a runny nose.

I felt so bad emotionally and kept apologizing to Lisa, my wife, that we spent all this time and money and all I want to do is lay down. First a stomach ache to nausea. TUMS, Pepto Bismol..nothing would work. I was tired, frustrated and kept feeling awful about ruining this awesome vacation. If I have to turn down visiting Walt's Apartment something is seriously wrong with me. I guess I was trying to do the "man thing" and tough it out.

I was SO dehydrated by the time we arrived at the hospital that I could hardly stand anymore. I thought they were just going to give me an IV and some morphine and send me home. Other than feeling tired I really thought that did the trick. Then they were doing more tests and that's when they saw that my gallbladder was in bad shape which it would have happened over time.

So I had a groggy couple of days and I have never officially had surgery before until now. I'm told that it was iffy about taking it out laporoscopically however they would try that first. Seems to be I was lucky in this case and we're very grateful for the thoughts and prayers everyone has passed along. I believe in my heart that simple things like that go a long way.

We're so thankful for The Dis family; and we DO mean family. In fact I was a little shocked at first when Lisa told me that Pete started this thread. And then I thought how sweet. Plus we're in an unfamiliar city and only means of transportation is taxis and my wife felt pretty lost. Walter stepped in to help and I'm so glad they stayed in the room with me throughout the entire time. Once I was finally released Pete and Walter visited our hotel room which we were both grateful to see them. Just sitting and talking with them helped lifted out spirits through this entire ordeal. Pete is such a story teller that you can't help but laugh..in my case it really hurts to laugh for the moment but its totally OK and there was no harm done.

Now that I've finally been able to eat and drink and with the love and pixie dust you've given me my strength has been returning. Its an interesting feeling almost learning how to walk again. I began to wonder, is this how astronauts use to feel when they landed back to earth? I'm very grateful that the doctors gave their blessing about keeping our original flight home! That's been one of our biggest worries since this all started. Once we checked out my poor wife had to find a CVS close by because, get this, the pharmacy in the hospital is CLOSED on the weekends! There was one about a mile away. She made it there and back without any problem.

Had a funny thought though...the hospital traded me a pair of gripped socks for one gallbladder!

Thank you everyone! We truly feel blessed!
Paul and Lisa Tully

& now you are a celebrity and we all know who you are. :woohoo: Seriously, I am so glad you are doing better. What a scare it had to be for everyone. Surgery in a town that isn't your own and surrounded by people you don't know, that you realize at the end of the day, are "family". I am glad the both of you got support from everyone and that Walter was kind enough to be your advocate. Take gentle care and have an uneventful trip home. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Penny:goodvibes

I'm so glad you're doing well now.:thumbsup2 GB surgery is no fun but how fortunate (if you have to look at it that way) for you that you got away with the lap. I can relate as I have an 8" ab scar from my surgery almost 18 years ago. What can you say about Pete and Walter except that they are just really special people to be there for your wife and you as they have been.

At least you can say ...or sing...I left my gallbladder...in Southern California...!:rolleyes1

Take care, happy healing and have a safe flight home.
Shannon

I bet once you're recovered from the actual surgery that you're going to feel a *LOT* better than you have in a long time. I know a couple of people who've had gallbladder attacks, and they've both remarked on how worth it it was to get rid of the darn thing!

Glad they're allowing you to go home! That's so great about how Pete & Walter were there for you. :goodvibes

We are checked out of our villa and packed to go home. Definitely not the trip we were planning, but we are very lucky he is ok and allowed to fly home on the original schedule. Thank you to all of you again for the prayers and pixie dust! They must have worked wonders. It's so good to see my husband look and sound more like himself again!

Hope your flight home goes well. We wish we could have done something for you while we were in CA. We are keeping you both in our prayers for a speedy recovery. Alan & Anne.

I just wanted to pop in here and continue to send my good wishes to both Paul and Lisa. :goodvibes

I also wanted to send some special kudos to Pete and Walter. They went above and beyond in assisting our friends here with this situation. Both were compassionate and caring through and through. Hugs to you two and enjoy Alaska!

We're happy to be home, and Paul is resting much of the time, fairly comfortably. :cool1:

I want to say again that Pete and Walter were both so compassionate and amazing, and I can't begin to express my gratitude enough for all they did to support me and help Paul and I throughout this ordeal. I don't even want to think of how much harder everything would have been had they not been there! They deserve a wonderful break in Alaska even more now!

Hi Everyone! Thanks again for your prayers.

After we checked out of our hotel I was up for walking around Downtown Disney a little. I was curious to see the Lego shop at least. We ran into Shelly and spent the day with her. We stopped and had a nice bite to eat and later waited in the hotel lobby. Finally we met up with Nancy Johnson; such a sweet gal!

It was a bit sadder than normal leaving the Disneyland Resort. In a way we just got there. I know I can't control what happened over the past couple of days but I still felt awful that we couldn't enjoy it more.

I'm thankful that the airport processing seemed a bit better than what I remember last year. We allowed to board before everyone else as "those needing extra time". The flights were very gentle on me. I never had any problems. In fact, our first flight from LAX to ATL was over 3 1/2 hours and we slept through most of it. Usually its hard for me to sleep on a plane. I thought I slept for an hour before drinking some orange juice and got up to use the rest room. I hear the pilot saying we're already making our initial decent. So I was very surprised.

Once we arrived in Atlanta we had an attendant waiting with a wheelchair for me. Luckily our flight was in the same terminal. I could have walked it had I known it was so close.

We're finally back at our home airport. There was another wheelchair waiting for us. This one I would need the way the airport it laid out. We were expecting a SuperShuttle but I guess they were all booked. To our surprise we had a nice black cushy sedan waiting for us! It was a nice surprise!

We finally walked in the door and I was so very tired from jet lag and having to recover. I went to bed and lay down. My wife, good bless her soul, had everything unpacked, put everything away and had laundry going already. Usually I try to take all of that out of her hands. Plus we have two cats that I would have picked up the next day. She drove out to get them. She still hasn't slept since we got home and its almost bed time anyway.

Lisa really is a STAR TROOPER. Between us we had 3 backpacks and 2 large pieces of checked luggage. While I was still in the hospital she was situating everything at first so our luggage could be easily moved from one room to another room. Before we left she made sure my backpack didn't weigh more than 10 pounds. Once we were at LAX she's pushing around 100 pounds in luggage and having to carry two backpacks. I SO much just wanted to grab a handle to help but I couldn't. She really pushed to get us wear we needed to go and once we got home she never stopped. She deserves a couple of medals after all that's gone on! I love her SO much and can't wait to get better so I can start pulling my share again. :lovestruc

Paul, Lisa, *SO* glad to hear you're home & settling back in, and hopefully, Paul, well on the mend.

I like when everything ends happy!

Sayhello

Glad to know you two are home safe and sound, almost sound! Paul, sounds like Lisa is truly amazing! You are too so take it easy and get well!

Paul - I cried reading your comments about Lisa. There are many people who go above and beyond for they ones they love. Many times it isn't recognized or acknowledged. It is so :goodvibesnice to hear that you both recognize and acknowledge it and this while you are still recovering. I am sure Lisa appreciates that more than anything else you could give her.:thumbsup2 You are both very lucky to have each other. At the end of the day that is what life is all about. take gentle care and I will continue to keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers. Penny:hippie:
