We are on a strict budget, so I am hoping this is the right place to post this-
OK, here's my thought.......

We will be at MK on 10/31 until 7pm....(we just can't afford the extra $650 for 9 people to do the MNSSHP :sad::sad:)

We want to head over to the Poly to watch the fireworks on the beach before going back to our offsite townhome. But we will need to feed 5 hungry kids. So I was thinking of grabbing the car (while they take the monorail to the Poly) and running somewhere to get take-out to eat on the beach.

We were thinking of eating at the CS place at the Poly, but I looked at the menu and it doesn't look too appealing.

Is there a good take out pizza place or chinese place nearby? We are doing WDW for 8 days and mostly eating at CS and offsite chain type restaurants. So the kids are gonna have their fill of burgers, fries, chicken fingers etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have not personally eaten here but I found this off the Trails End (Fort Wilderness Resort) menu:

Giddyap and Go: TO GO MENU ONLY - 10 pieces of our famous fried chicken, fries, cole slaw, and biscuits for 4. White meat only $24.99 - $22.99
Pizza: TO GO MENU ONLY - 16" thin crust cheese pizza $13.99 or 16" thin crust pepperoni pizza $15.49 - $13.99
The Lone Rider: TO GO MENU ONLY - 2 pieces of our famous fried chicken, fries, cole slaw, and a biscuit. White meat only $8.99 - $7.99

They are a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. I believe you can see fireworks from Fort Wilderness too. So maybe an alternative would be to all go over there and eat the pizzas on the beach there?

Just thought of the pizzas at the Hess gas station onsite. We picked one up on our last trip in at the beginning of the summer. Really cheap and not bad tasting. But not sure how quick it would be to get in the car, go buy something and bring it back to eat. Maybe if you left well before the park closed and avoided some of that traffic. I found a post from 2011 that describes the Hess gas station pizza: "Hess gas stations at DTD and exit of MK. The one at the MK exit is DELICIOUS!! $7 for a large thick crust pizza. Best pizza i've had anywhere for a long time."

Flippers Pizza is great. There's a location at The Crossroads - Lake Buena Vista.

The Hess station over by BWI and by DTD both have ready-made pizza and can do sandwiches. There is a Taco Bell over in Crossroads area. That's cheap and fast.

thanks for the ideas....hmm pizza from a gas station? Not sure I could sell my husband on that. He's from NYC and is a pizza snob. But I guess I don't have to tell him.

I forgot about crossroads....they will definitely have stuff. Does anyone know if they have a website for the crossroads shopping plaza?

Also the take-out at wilderness resort, but that might be a good option. we could all take the boat over there and then either stay there for the fireworks, or head to the Poly.

Does anyone know how late the monorail runs on oct 31st?

OMG I just thought of something....I remember reading somewhere that there is trick or treating at the the camping grounds. Would we be allowed to do a little if we aren't staying at the camp grounds? The kids might LOVE that?

Does anyone know what time the trick or treating starts?

There is a Hess station right by the Magic Kingdom. Its located by the car care center. They often times have specials on their pizza such as buy a pizza get a 2 liter of pop free. Their pizza is good. We have had it many a times from this location. This location also has a cafe area that has serveral tables and chairs so you could take everyone there to eat before see the fireworks. Their hot dogs are good and cheap. Me and DH get two dogs each, two 20oz cokes and a bags of combo's and pay less than $8.00 total for lunch!!!! Caseys inside MK wants $8.00 a person for their hotdog combo and it does not come with a drink.

As you are driving to the TTC lot you will see the Hess station off to your left

Here is a link to the Hess location

They only check at MK. You might be OK at the campground. I'd check on the resort board for this one.

Actually ask about the trick or treating on the Camping board. The folks there will know if they do that and what the situation with it is. And no, there wouldn't be wristbands that I could imagine. I think it's just something individual campers might do, if done at all. But ask on that board - they will know.

OP - I hope you're not planning on taking your take out pizza to the Poly beach though. You don't really see anyone eating on the beach. Not saying there's a rule - cause I have no clue - but I think it would be odd (and sandy). And an afterthought - very dark.

MNSSHP fireworks aren't until 9:30, I think you would have plenty of time to all go together and get something and eat it - like at Crossroads, and then return.

As to eating on the Poly Beach during the fireworks--DH and I were there in May--as I recall the small bar was open, but I don't remember any food being sold, just beverages. There aren't very many tables available (less than 10?) close to the beach, and the chairs are grabbed up very quickly.

You might want to consider eating in the contempo cafe in the contemporary on your way to the poly. If you head out of the mk right at 7 I would think you would be rushed to get all the way to your car, get food and bring it back to poly in time to eat and watch fireworks at 9:30.

I think that would be a rush too. A lot of people leave right before the fireworks to avoid the traffic. Grab a snack at the park and then get something after the fireworks. Too much running around and you have to find them on a dark beach and eat the cold food. Not my idea of fun.

You can see the fireworks from the FW beach... just grab takeout there or at the Grand Floridian, if you don't like the menu at Captain Cook's.

I agree. It will take you at least an hour to get from MK to Hess, get pizza and return to The Poly. Anther option besides the other monorail resorts is Sleepy Hollow for their waffle sandwhiches. They are (or were at least in April), under $7 and easily shareable. And this coming from a family that does not think most of Disney's CS meals are shareable. Right next door at the fruit stand type place in Liberty Sq., you can buy baked sweet potatoes, etc, to round out a very cheap meal. Oh, and after 50 plus trips to WDW, we now ask for cups of water at the CS places, saves us a ton of money over the bottled.

We were hoping to watch the water electric parade (not sure of the correct name) before the fireworks. So I'm thinking the Wilderness camping area might be the best place to get food. Especially if most of you think I wont have time to leave the park before 7pm, grab food and get back. Oh and we don't mind eating out of the back of a minivan.....we call that "Tailgating" up hear in Buffalo.

Thanks to everyone for their advise. As usual, tons of good ideas!

Where will you park if you leave and return? Not sure if you could get back into the MK parking lot without a party ticket or having to pay again to park and you might need to be eating at the polly to park there. They may give you a 3 hour pass to look around but with the special fireworks, maybe not. I would honestly just re-budget somewhere else and plan to grab food somewhere on property. The chicken at FW is really good and not a bad deal at all. You could also check out the food court at WL, they have a small simple place but we got really good hot dogs there. Also, consider taking a picnic with you. You of course would have to pack carefully to have it in the car all day but maybe peanut butter and jelly, or even spam if your family likes it, with chips and cookies and a well iced cooler with drinks. Might be more trouble but certainly cheaper!

I am wondering if they will even let you watch it from the Poly that night. There has been some restrictions lately (I think 4th of July that only resort guests were permitted) You just might want to double check as you get closer.

However that said, I burst out laughing at your remark "thanks for the ideas....hmm pizza from a gas station? Not sure I could sell my husband on that. He's from NYC and is a pizza snob. But I guess I don't have to tell him." Trust me, I'm a New Yorker, he WILL know ROFL With apologies to others, there is no pizza like NY Pizza.

I'm assuming you'll have your car parked at MK ... but you could easily take the boat to FW. I don't know exactly when ToT starts there, but we've spent the last few Halloweens camping at the Fort. It's a great tradition, but it's BUSY! They've tried in the past to make it harder for locals to get in, and I can't blame them. We have a golf cart, but the amount of people are really insane ... it's a LOT of fun, I don't want you to think it's not fun. It's also a lot of walking. This year, Disney had people directing traffic inside the Fort, and I know last year on our loop there was a golf cart accident (I think that either a little girl was hit by a kid driving the family golf cart). So while I'm not telling you to stay away from the Fort at all, I just want to warn you it can be chaotic.

We've done the take out chicken from Trail's End before, and it's really good. Off the top of my head, I can't think of many places to eat ... since most people have the luxury of having a campsite nearby. That's something to look into on the resort board for sure.

Our plan for Halloween is to ToT, then head back to the RV and drop off the candy. We head to the beach after that, it gets pretty crowded. You can see Hallowishes and the water Parade. Personally, we've never seen anyone checking to make sure you're a guest at the place. Then you're right at the dock to take the boat back to MK and head back to your car ...
