Good Riddance

I wonder when something new will be in its place. I hope they tone it down a bit. Not every park needs a giant, larger than life, centerpiece. The castle at MK, Epcot's ball, and the Tree of Life at AK all fit perfectly but the hat looks like it belongs at a value resort. Hopefully they find a use for it somewhere.

So pleased that its going. Im never seen it without the hat but always hated it.

Dont think they should put anything there in its place either. Spend the money on TGMR

Just as many people loved the hat as hate it. I for one am one of those that feel really sad to see it go:sad:. It added something to the park, it is one of the most recognizable feature to the park. Like the tree of life etc. I mean is nothing sacred anymore.....whats up with all the changes. Disney is more than trying to capitalize on the newest thing you know. It's about parents wanting to share the things they remember from their childhood visits to the park. It's about tradition. New things are great but not at the expense of the classics!!:confused3 There are a core group of Disney fanatics, who love the experience old and new......we contribute thousands of dollars each year to Disney (my family alone goes every year, at an average of 5000K). What about us....we represent Disneys bread and butter.

Also for those of you who like the new view of the chinese theater.......I have it on VERY good authority that it is also being removed to make way for the star wars expansion.

So you're saying the supposed temporary hat/pin trading station is a classic? The one that was built 12 years AFTER the park was?

I has become Iconic yes ... look I realize that based on the entire premise of this thread, my opinion wasn't going to be popular, but you've got to know not everyone shares your view.

Having the hat (and for that matter the ugly wand at Epcot) for a short period for a special celebration was fine but my main reason for not liking it was it looked completely out of place. Brick and stone "old Hollywood" buildings that more of less flowed one into the next until you hit the bright shiny plastic looking hat. It even looked temporary (yes, I know it was built well) It was not themed to fit the area at all. It looked like someone just decided "quick, we need to put something that people associate with Disney here pronto - anything will do".

OMG, how will they ever make up for the loss of photopass print sales from people wanting the hat icon shot!? Ok hint of sarcasm there, but this is Disney, there really is potential lost revenue there!

I remember the park without the hat. When the hat came, I did not hate the hat itself, just where it was put and I still think that to this day. Hopefully they will find a way to incorporate it into another area and not have it look like it was just set somewhere without any thought...again. Put it outside maybe by the park entrance or out by World Drive. Heck put it just outside the gates and have the security screening area underneath!

Just because the hat is being removed from it's current location doesn't mean it can no longer be the park icon. It can still be an icon, just not in front of the theater. As far as icons go, it actually works. The sorcerer's apprentice hat represents the Disney "magic" and the "magic" of movies in general. What didn't work was plopping it down in front of the theater. But if they do end up scrapping it, I won't lose any sleep over it.

I enjoyed the hat icon, you know Mickey the Sorcerer, can you imagine the photo pass line in front of TOT now :)

Maybe I'm just old(ish), but the Studios I remember from my childhood did not have the hat.
