I've never gone to Disney before with kids and in December will be my first time. There will be two girls, ages 9 and 12. I'm not sure where to book reservations for. So far I have one Be Our Guest lunch and one dinner, is the same restaurant for two different meals overkill on the same trip? I've been for both before and liked both, they've never been. I'm in much need of help for the planning of this trip lol

Are you paying cash or on the dining plan? Personally, i would never pay cash for BoG. Once you've seen the inside, that's about it. The food is severely overpriced.

At that age, depending on your children, they may need an adult meal or a kids meal. Also, what do your kids eat? Mine, even at that age, wanted good sushi and shwarma, but your milage may differ.

Fun for kids:
T-REX at Disney Springs
50's Prime Time Cafe at Disney Hollywood (Really good food).
The Sci-Fi at Disney Hollywood (Great atmosphere for kids & adults)
Rain Forest Cafe
Just about any place with character dining.

We aren't on the dining plan. I enjoyed the food and I think they'll like being able to go into Belle's castle. One is a little bit picky on what she eats and the other will try anything

Akershus breakfast in EPCOT is wonderful for Princess fans! We loved it! We saw Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, and Belle. And they did a parade with the children guests! It's a treasured memory.

I've done both on the first trip it was available, with kids that were your age at the time, and I think looking back it would have been best to do lunch and skip dinner. It's not worth the $$ price for breakfast or dinner IMO. Much better choices in the area that are much cheaper.

I'd keep lunch at BOG and drop dinner.

As far as other kid friendly restaurants, TREX or Rainforest Cafe if you don't have one near you, SciFi, Garden Grill, San Angel, Chef Mickey's, Tusker House... the list goes on! I'd look for somewhere with a unique atmosphere and food you know your kiddos would eat.

At Be Our Guest lunch will be quick service and dinner will be table service so very different experiences. Plus at dinner you will probably be able to meet the Beast. So take that into consideration. If you just want your girls to experience the castle then I would keep lunch and plan dinner elsewhere. I would also recommend

'Ohana dinner
'Ohana Breakfast with Lilo & Stitch
Teppan Edo
50's Primetime Cafe
Crystal Palace with Winnie the Pooh & Friends
Liberty Tree Tavern
Chef Mickey's
Captain Cook's quick service at the Polynesian Resort

On a side note - I see you're visiting in December. I highly recommend touring the resorts to see the Christmas decorations. Specifically the Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian.

Another vote for Ohana breakfast w/Lilo & Stitch, Sci-Fi and T-Rex or Rainforest Cafe, all places my kids love!

I would pick BOG dinner over lunch. It's less chaotic and they will see the Beast.

I would probably pick one princess meal and one Mickey meal (TH and Akershus are our favorites). 1900 Park Fare breakfast is also fun.

O'hana dinner and Sci-Fi are fun! Biergarten would be fun in EP.

My kids, who are younger and male, tell me their favorites are, in order, Sanaa, Cinderella's Royal Table, Be Our Guest, and Crystal Palace. I'm sure being in the Magic Kingdom helped on those last three.

We did NOT enjoy T-Rex. The theming was cool, but the ice cave (where we were seated) was incredibly hard on the eyes, and gave my husband a terrible headache. And It was so loud. We had planned to order the chocolate extinction dessert, but had to back out because we just wanted to leave. And T-Rex wound up not even being on our kids' list for what they enjoyed most.

We did most of the character dining experiences when we had free dining, and I'd say Akershus and Garden Grill are both good, as is Tusker House.

Sanaa, while not seemingly the place for kids, is their favorite (and ours) so far, and not even because of the animals. They love the bread service and the milk and cookies dessert. I feel like Sanaa will be on the agenda for every single trip.

These are so helpful thank you!! It's funny how you have to change your Disney approach when bringing kids

Be Our Guest is great for kids, as is Crystal Palace (MK), Cinderella's Royal Table (MK), Ohana (Polynesian Resort), Chef Mickey's (Contemporary Resort), Tusker House (Animal Kingdom), Sci Fi Dine-In Theater (Hollywood Studios), Whispering Canyon Cafe (Wilderness Lodge Resort), T-Rex (Disney Springs), breakfast at Garden Grill (Epcot), Beaches & Cream (Beach Club Resort), Hoop Dee Doo Revue dinner show (Fort Wilderness Resort).

We love the following:
Akershus - our favorite for princesses
1900 PF for lunch or for dinner
Garden Grill in EPCOT
Whispering Canyon Cafe at the WL - so much fun.
Sci Fi at HS - we love the sitting in the cars and watching the movies.
Cape May at the BC for breakfast
Beaches and Cream at the BC - we love the ice cream and you do need a reservation but can do take out
Tusker House - love the food and the characters
Sanaa - we love the food and if you get a good table you can be by the window and watch the animals.

Have fun

If you end up eating at one of the Poly restaurants, I would also recommend taking them to Trader Sam's to enjoy the antics and special effects. They have really good "mocktails" there and my DS9 loves it. We usually go right at opening (line up about 3:45 pm) to make sure we can get in.

I have to say that my favorite restaurant hasn't changed since I was a kid, and that's sci-fi. The atmosphere is incomparable in my opinion, but that might also be the infatuation with cars that I had as a kid. I say it's a must do if you have kids.

We love:
1900 Park Fare (dinner)
Akershus (breakfast)
Be Our Guest
Bongos Cuban Cafe
Crystal Palace
Mama Melrose
Tusker House (breakfast)
Via Napoli

We are looking forward to trying the new Bon Voyage breakfast at Trattoria al Forno this trip.
