Hi Everyone,

I'm home sick battling the flu or some awful form of it, and I was wondering if anyone had any good comfort food recipes besides the usual chicken soup, etc. If anyone has any recommendations, they would be very much appreciated! :goodvibes

When I am sick, I like simpler foods. Depending on what your system can take, you might want to have some eggs and toast. Maybe a simple turkey sandwich.

Jell-o for dessert, of course.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Mike! I can actually take a lot when I'm sick. I was thinking of making my "famous" gorgonzola cream sauce with some penne pasta later, but we don't have any gorgonzola cheese in the house...

Right now for breakfast, I'm eating some hash browns. They're really good. :)

I usually find ordering in Chinese helps...

Hot and sour soup works *wonders* for congestion.

And since you're ordering, might as well have some house lo mien and some sweet and sour pork and some shrimp in lobster sauce and maybe an order of spare ribs and a couple of egg rolls and some garlic chicken and broccoli (veggies are good for you  )

Feel better. :goodvibes

Mmmm... Maybe some General Tso's and sesame chicken would help too... :)

Hot tea. If it is congestion, hot tea with honey and 1 oz. (more?) of the liquor of your preference--I generally use gin/scotch. Followed by a buffered aspirin. Guaranteed to knock you out, and make you better in the morning. If really congested, put a hot water bottle on your chest too.
For a bad throat, hot tea with honey to taste, and if you are really brave, fresh lemon juice. Note: lemon juice can hurt. Be careful!
For strep throat, all of the above, depending on symptoms. Plus, you can make up some Bird's Custard powder. It is a vanilla-y custard that can slide down a really sore throat without hurting. Alternately, egg nog: 1 fresh egg, 1 c. milk, 1 tsp. sugar/honey, 1 tsp. vanilla. Beat together until frothy. You can add 1 oz. liquor of choice. You can also add ice cubes.
For a cold, hot buttered toast with honey.
My grandmother used to give us mustard plasters if we were really congested--but I hesitate to go there!

Okay it might sound odd but the best go to sick meal that my sister has noticed to be perfect is a Hamburger Happy Meal. Always works!!!

I make rice, put lots of butter in it, take a can of chicken, and either make gravy or throw in a can of pre-made gravy (i.e. Boston Market brand, etc.) and heat that up with lots of black pepper...it's super easy, and I think it's ccomfort food along the lines of chicken soup, but it's something a little different.
