Good price for international flight?

My family is thinking about doing the DCL transatlantic cruise next spring. I've priced out flights from Barcelona to Toronto (which surprisingly is cheaper than flying into Orlando or Buffalo), and I'm getting what I've been told is a good price (~$2000 CDN or $1800 US for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant).

Someone else, however, has told me I should hold off purchasing an international flight until the spring sales arrive in December. I've never flown internationally, so I don't know whether the price would get better than this, or whether I should jump on this price right now. Most other flights right now seem to be at least 3 times this price.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Right now YYZ-FRA is pricing around $1400-1800. There are sales on LH sometimes which bring that down to around $850-900. AC has similar prices. LH also runs specials to other destinations; right now Scandinavia, 'hot' European cities, and central/eastern Europe are around $850-900 on sale for instance.

However those are based on round trip purchase; a one way is usually higher when flying internationally.

All prices are for economy class; other classes of service would run higher - business class for instance averages $5,000 on LH and generally higher on other carriers.

Many/most seat sales will show the price for a one-way ticket based on buying a round trip ticket. If you try to actually buy a one-way ticket, the price is considerably higher.

Speaking only for Air Canada, I know that the fare classes you'll need to purchase for one-way fares are often on a different sale schedule than the other economy fares.

The "experts" in a cruise board claim AerLingus is the only major carrier that offers true one way pricing on transatlantic routes. You may have to book airfare from Dublin.

Sorry, don't know what LH is.

I've already checked out AerLingus. They aren't booking that far ahead and if I go by a March rate, it is slightly cheaper than what I've been quoted, but I wouldn't even get close to Toronto, so whatever savings I've got would be eaten up by getting another flight to Toronto or renting a car and a hotel.
