DS's bag developed big damage this year on vacation. I want to get him a nice set of two or three-the extra small not being necessary. We have three days to find the bags. Monday is his birthday and these will be a suprise. He is against buying things at Walmart so I will honor his wishes because this is a gift for him.

Target usually has good deals, Macy's usually has some marked down but they typically start a lot higher.

I usually buy from ebags. But Target had some nice looking rolling bags when I looked today.

I love the bag I got from Target. Best $68 or whatever I ever spent (got it on sale!!) I think they have a good selection where you can't really go wrong. Sure it may not be the most amazing suitcase ever and last you til you die, but they're generally sturdy, well put together, most have spinners or at least decent wheels and they're good looking for a good price.

For a set I would go with a mid-low range department store like Penneys or Sears or maybe Kohls.

All great ideas! I hadn't thought of Kohls. DH found a bag he likes at Eddie Bauer. We have several of their stores including their warehouse here in town. I also didn't think Target would be a good source so we'll check there. The bags are widely varied in the quality of construction and price. We travel a lot so DS needs a sturdy bag.

Try TJMAXX or Marshalls! They normally have brand names at great prices! Plus all their bags are on display so you can roll them around and test out the pocket sizes and zippers before buying! :thumbsup2

Costco's Kirkland signature luggage has a lifetime warranty (at least they did a couple of years ago) and are good bags.

Check Kohl's. Or TJ Maxx.

I've bought luggage at both those places that I'm happy with. It's lasted years even with the tossing around by airlines.

Just remember to take a tape measure with you, especially if you are planning to buy a larger rolling suitcase or duffel. The dimensions listed on the label are often inaccurate, and you wouldn't want to depend on that and end up paying an oversize fee when you check the bag.

If length + width + height (included wheels and handle) add up to more than 61" on a softside, don't buy it.

I'm picky about luggage, and I usually buy it at either Tuesday Morning or TJMaxx. One thing that I always do before buying is to roll it over to the linens dept and fill it to the brim with packaged sheets, then zip it up and re-measure it, and also roll it around a bit. If it is awkward to maneuver when fully packed, it's not for me. (It should go without saying that when I've decided what to buy, the sheets go back exactly where I found them.)

Also, re: warranties and luggage. If you plan to ever invoke the warranty, save the labels AND the store receipt for the bag purchase in a safe place. Most luggage makers will not honor a warranty claim without them, even years later. I found that out the hard way.

I buy mine at Macy's. I like their selection of brands and colors, and I always find a really good sale, plus I use their coupons. I think that they tend to have the nicer brands in stock; I feel like I'm starting from a level playing field on quality.

We got an Eddie Bauer set from Target when we got married & the quality was terrible, but perhaps they are different that the quality if you buy directly from EB.

Complete different mfr. The stuff at EB is made by Skyway; the branded bags at Target are not.

Just bought a 25" samsonite spinner at Ross for $75. Not cheap but good brand so I'm hoping it lasts several years, we aren't frequent flyers so should make it several years

We bought a 29" piece with spinners and really good quality handles, corners, zippers and expansion at Marshall's for $99. We shopped Macy's,Kohl's,Target, TJMaxx.

Remember it not so much where to buy it but the quality. When buying look for one that has a high denier count. A count higher than 600 means the fabric shell is made of a strong material. You will find this info listed on the tag. :thumbsup2

I like ebags. Bought a Samsonite set from them last year for an awesome price and the luggage is awesome. I've also ordered from Luggage Pros and been happy. LL Bean also has nice luggage.

I will be checking Kohl's during the Thanksgiving sales.

As well as the online places recommended here.

First time ever having to buy luggage.
