I am looking to sell $210 in Southwest Airlines credits but I hate to use ebay with their excessive fees. Does anyone know if thee is a better site to sell these on (maybe a dedicated airline site?) Has anyone ever sold these on Craigslist?

Thanks :flower:

have you tried the Transportation board right here at the DIS? (assuming the mods don't have a problem with it)

Does Southwest even allow that? If they are like vouchers on other airlines, only the person who was issued the credits can use them.

Southwest doesn't care. I had travel credits myself and used them to purchase tickets for my mother-in-law. I did call SW to verify and it was all okie-dokie with them.

Southwest doesn't care.

You are mistaken. Southwest does indeed care and they stop these auctions on eBay when they catch them:

http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=101359hood

These credits and vouchers may NOT be sold:

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® Award Tickets are transferable; however, Award Tickets have no cash value and are VOID if sold, purchased or auctioned for cash or other valuable consideration. Any violation of the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program rules and regulations, including those relating to Award Ticket use, will result in the loss of benefits and/or cancellation of membership in the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program. Misrepresentation, abuse or violation of Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program rules and regulations is also subject to appropriate administrative and/or legal action by appropriate governmental authorities and Southwest Airlines. In addition, Southwest Airlines reserves the right to take appropriate legal action to recover damages that result from violations of the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program rules and regulations.

And:

Vouchers/Certificates/Drink Coupons are VOID if sold, purchased or bartered for cash or other valuable consideration.

You used these credits to buy a ticket for a family member, That is allowed. You did not sell to a stranger, which is not allowed.

Well these refer to Rapid Rewards credits and NOT Ticketless Travel Funds (which I am referring to!!!)

The sale of Ticketless Travel Funds is completely acceptable and permitted on Ebay. Those auctions are not closed on a regular basis and are fully transferrable and saleable.

Please read carefully before giving misinformation!!!

AMEN HayGan!

I sold my ticketless travel funds on ebay. I did a buy it now auction for about $20-30 less than the value if I remember correctly. Try www.mycoupons.com/boards and click on the garage sale board and try there as well.

I'd like to know too....I have some JetBlue credits that I won't be using and hate to pay the Ebay fees.

Do you have any friends locally taking a trip that could use the Ticketless Funds?

PS. I'd buy them, if my stinkin' flight would come down in price....

I didn't know that they brought the garage sale board back up. Haven't been over there in quite awhile :sad2:

Thanks for the info!

I think I might try craigslist in a few of Southwest's largest cities first :thumbsup2

How would you even go about this? Do you just give the buyer the confirmation number the travel funds are under or can the owner call SW and have them transferred some how?

I just provide the buyer with the booking code and the name that the funds are under. When you go to book a reservation, there is an option to apply ticketless travel funds. It is really easy!

if it were me, i'd have the buyer paypal me the $ and then provide the buyer w/the confirmation number... fortunately the conf# has no personal info attached to it :)

This is correct. You are still mistaken if you think that you can sell SWA vouchers legally. Note the caveat in eBay's policy:

Please note that many airline tickets, vouchers, and frequent flier miles are not transferable, and sellers should review any travel related item before listing to make sure that it can be transferred legally to another party and will be accepted by the issuing provider of travel services.

What eBay allows and what SWA allows are two different things.

I already posted the link to SWA's eBay Me Page, which states DEFINITIVELY that vouchers MAY NOT BE SOLD:

Vouchers/Certificates/Drink Coupons are VOID if sold, purchased or bartered for cash or other valuable consideration.

You said it!

You said it!

These are not vouchers and are completely transferrable. Rapid rewards credits and vouchers received from Southwest are not saleable.

Ticketless Travel Funds (which these are) are completely transferrrable and sold legally on Ebay every day!!!!!!

However, it appears you can give them away, by selling a blank envelope, or a drink coupon book, and including them for free. eBay doesn't end my auction if I do that. eBay did tell me that as long as I don't do any of the booking, they won't stop my auction (but I do, so that's why selling the envelope or drink coupons is better), but SW may send in a vero, and then they will stop it.

I've got two one way vouchers to sell again, and that is the only way I have been able to sell them on eBay in the past. I think I will try Craig's list this time, although I'm more uneasy about using that way. I do prefer though, that I can go the money order route and save the eBay and PP fees.
For some reason, Craig's List doesn't seem to have a problem with it, no matter how you list them, but SW does say they can't be sold.

I know nothing about the rules for the credits, but I have seen those auctions get pulled as well.

I do not think that HayGan is referring to vouchers/tickets/FF miles or drink coupons. She is referring to travel funds that are a result of getting a credit for rebooking a flight at a lower fare or cancelling one. This is not the same as a flight voucher that is given to an individual for giving up their seat to a standby customer or FF miles that someone earned but wishes to "sell" to another individual.

I've used ticketless travel funds to purchase airfare for my parents after the flights I'd booked came down in price and we had the difference credited to our account. I could have used those funds to book tickets for my neighbor, if I wanted to. SWA didn't care who I booked the flight for as long as I was the one booking it.

To be honest, I don't know of any places to do this. You might want to pop over to flyertalk.com to see if the question has been asked/answered before.

Thanks for the advice, Lisa :)

BTW, I confirmed with Southwest that Ticketless Travel Funds are completely transferrable and able to be sold on Ebay. Vouchers/drink coupons/rapid rewards credits can not be sold because they are rewards from Southwest. Ticketless Travel Funds were paid for by someone and can be sold and used by anyone!
