Hi everyone ! I don't frequent this board (you will find me on the budget or community board), but thought I'd pop in to ask some advice. I'm looking for a good point and shoot camera. I just picked up the Canon Elph 300 and not sure if I like the quality of the photos. I also started a thread on the budget board about the camera. Soooo does anyone have any input they'd like to share as to a good P&S camera? I am looking for any information !!

Thank you!!

This website http://www.dpreview.com/ has reviews of groups of P&S cameras, such as "basic", "advanced", "super zoom", etc. The reviews and ratings should help you to find what you are looking for.

Fwiw, I have a Canon SD1100 (don't like the image quality much) and a Canon G11 (very nice P&S).

I've never used the Elph, but I'm willing to bet you could improve the quality of those photos with some very simple post processing.

Adjust the White Balance
Add some contrast with Levels or Curves
Reduce noise if taken at high ISO.
Sharpen the places that should be sharp

A few minutes work can make a stunning difference in your images.

I think with p&s you can't be too picky. I would go to a decent website that recommends cameras. Based on what you would like to have, choose a camera that fits you. They are all just point and shoot and won't do anything amazing like today's felts in low light high iso.

Just my .02¢

There are several ways to go in the P&S category. How compact do you want? How much zoom? How much control do you want?

Spending time researching what you want/need from a camera before purchase will save a lot of headaches after.

Here are a few sites I use when looking at cameras. Also check the reviews on Amazon and look for common issues/complements about a camera.

I do not shoot a p&s but just started to look for one to hang from a kite. What I have seen is that previous models can be had for a fraction of their original price. Many of the 2009/2010 models are quite capable 10mp cameras for about $50 if you are patient.

Not sure of ones budget but that is getting close to disposable. If you do not need the latest, look at older reviews and go hunting.
