Good or bad. Tell me about your Sleep Number bed

We're in the market for a new mattress (queen size) are considering a sleep number.

I'd love to hear pros and cons and which model is the best. If you have/had one and hated it, I'd love to hear about that too.

My husband and I have the P series in a King. We love it and dislike it at the same time. it's essentially an air mattress with a pad on top. About once every couple months, we'll fill both chambers up to 100 and then lower back to our original number, because otherwise is seems like they slowly lose some of the air. The other thing my husband hates, is that in between each side, they have a foam divider. When he cuddles up next to me, he lays on the divider, and then will either "sink" into my side or "roll" over into his side.

Aside from that, we love it.

We have had one for about 15 years-the Pro's-it doesnt get body prints and sleeps the same today as it did 15 years ago. Ours is a different pump model than the PP and doesnt loose air although you do have to do adjustments as the house temp cools from summer to fall to winter and warms back in the spring. My husband has back issues and sleeps better on it than a regular mattress. Its easy for one person to move. Because the bladders are seperate if one person is an active sleeper they do not wake the other one when they move around.
The Cons-lightweight mattress 'travels'. We have to get the mattress centered back on the box spring and pushed to the top almost every night because it scoots around when our large dogs jump up on it. It sleeps cold-which is not bad in the summer but sucks in the winter. Also while we dont have the issue with the foam seperators rolling people either way, if one of the dogs ( 100+ lbs) gets up on my side, or hubby comes over to my side it gets uncomfortabley firm.
They changed manufactures a few years ago-about 10-and ihave seen alot of complaints about mold on the bladders or the bladders not holding up as well since then. Ours is from the older Canadian manufacturer and we have not had any of those issues.

I had to have one because it felt great in a hotel and it felt great in a store. I bought it (I can't remember the series) and literally 6 months later it went to the curb for the garbage man to take. It was one of the dual chamber one. It wasn't the most expensive but it wasn't the cheapest either.

The reason I hated it was horrible for my back. I would wake up and winch getting out of bed my back hurt so bad. Even after lying there for only 5 minutes (let's say I forgot to turn off a light and got up again) I would have that pain.

I contacted Sleep Number and they sent me some parts to make it more firm, I can't remember what it was, almost like a topper (it already had a topper). I also tried my own topper I bought before calling Sleep Number.

I felt horrible throwing it to the curb but it wasn't worth the pain I had each morning. I did save the airpump and remotes and sold those on ebay for about $120 total.

DH and I tried them out in the store a couple years ago when we were looking for a new bed (queen size).

We didn't get one because it is basically 2 wooden rectangular boxes with an air mattress inside and since we are cuddlers during most of the night and sleep in the middle of the bed, the frame could very obviously be felt by both of us.

It was a no go.

We've had one for 16 or so years. I like it. I don't know that I "love" it by my sleep number is 30 and DH is 70..so we have one. I want to get a foam adjustable bed next. With a king you can get two different mattresses so DH can get his rock hard bed and I can get my nice soft bed .

I don't really notice the foam divider and our frame isn't wood, it's foam, so we don't have issues with the lump in the middle, but I'm sure they have changed that design in the last how many years.

Had one and hated it for most of the reasons listed above. Also, we found that the foam around the outside and between the two sides didn't hold up well. We paid quite a bit of $$ for the darned thing and ditched it 2 years later.

Personally, I could sleep on anything, but my DH suffers from "prince and the pea" syndrome. I think we've had 4 mattresses in 11 years.

Yes, that would be my complaint too. It's really difficult to cuddle with DH because of that divider thing.

We've had our sleep number bed for 9+ years now. My pump seems to be giving out. Sometimes when I readjust my number, the bed won't inflate/deflate. My husband has been looking at replacing the pump, and finds that it'll be expensive.

Overall, we like Sleep Number, and will probably purchase another one, when this one gives out.

There is a bed called a sleep better bed which is just like the sleep number but does not have the foam divider in the middle and is significantly cheaper. I think it is just ok. DH and I have significantly different sleep numbers and that is the plus of the bed. Because of that, though, the middle of the bed is kind of worthless. Also because I have a very low sleep number (like 20) I feel there is no support and it is very air mattress like. We had to add a pillow top to the bed even though ours already came with one and that helped some.

We had one for about 10 years - I liked it, hubby (bad back) didn't. Bought it refurb from the factory for a very good deal. Had dual chambers, the foam divider didn't bother us.

Sold it with our bedroom suite when we were getting a new one.

Now have the icomfort (memory foam with gel) and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it... also have the adjustable frame. It's pretty awesome!
