So this man stood up and helped a very vulnerable senior .
I don't know about you but at least once a week I get a call from "The RCMP" threatening to put me in jail.
I know of a few people that have almost fallen for this scam. Warning to all,, ,talk about this issue with your family ,,,especially seniors)
These people can be very threatening. Our friends & family are being scammed out of thousands of dollars.

The owner of Petro Canada in Belle River has been seeing victims of scams coming into his store

Kudos to the Petro Canada owner/worker that stepped up to help!!!
We need to keep that hard earned money for vacations!

I keep getting a call that I have a "package that has been confiscated by border control" and I need to call a number to rectify the matter. Gah!!!!

I really feel for the vulnerable people that get pressured by these scammers. It is so sad.

I’m so glad you mentioned this !! Here’s my story from the other day . I’m not a senior , consider myself really scam aware and tech literate . I got a text from UPS saying my package was delayed. I’m signed up for text alerts so thought nothing of it . It asked me to update the delivery schedule , so I clicked the link ( :sad2:) and then I signed into our account. It said their was a small duty charge on the package so I paid it by PUTTING IN ALL MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS AND ADDRESS and then updated the delivery time. I closed out of the page and then my heart sank as I remembered they have never asked me to confirm my address and credit card details .. they already have my address if they are delivering a package.

Here is the even scarier part . We absolutely were expecting a delivery from UPS that day and had been emailed that it was out for delivery. So they knew we had a ups package being delivered . No way was that coincidence. And I thought nothing of it because my husband orders things from the states sometimes so their could have been a fee.

Any way imagine my husbands face when I told him we had to cancel our cards because I followed a text link and filled in my credit card info . I felt so dumb . This one was very authentic looking and I found out after it’s usually people working on the inside who provide the delivery info and phone number to scammers. At least that’s what the FBI page said about it in the states .

Ahhh Pigletto I am so sorry.
Yeah I think there is a lot of inside help in some of these scams.

My middle son is a computer analyst and he said it is getting harder and harder to tell the real emails from the scam emails.
A couple of weeks ago I got an email which looked totally legit to me but he was able to determine it was a scam.

And you weren't dumb ,,,, you were proactive and talked to hubby right away and cancelled the cards.

P.S. youngest son works for a major bank and with so many people online shopping now they are realizing they have to get ahead of the scammers or people will lose faith in their ability to protect them.

Hugs to you

When I was buying Disney giftcards for my recent trip, the guy at Rexall asked if anyone was making me buy them. I guess because of the high amount I was getting, and all the recent scams. Mind you, none of the other places I bought them at asked, and I bought a lot of them.

It is nice that someone was checking.

It's nice to know people are watching out for each other.
thanks for sharing.

For emails, I usually check the actual email addresses of the senders. If they look weird, I just delete the emails. For texts, I usually ignore. And there was one time, one text turned out to be legit about a delayed delivery. I am always afraid that I touch any links by accident if I am busy with my hands and somehow open the app by mistake. There are too many scams out there nowadays.

It's so scary now. I feel very sandwiched. I am watching out for myself but now I have my older Moms to look out for and soon my kids will be online too. Many of these things look legit and then the legit ones look suspicious. It's getting harder to know how to stay safe and I just cannot handle another username, password, or trying to remember which phone or email address is tied to which account!
