In talking with an 'off duty' CM the other night who is a photographer. With in the last week Photopass has arrived at DCA and in 2-3 weeks will be at DL.

Basically for you who don't know it is a credit card type way to take pictures. They take your picture scan the card through it through their camera and Viola! YOur pictures are on it. You can then give it to any CM to take your picture and it will be added to it. You can also order prints from home and stuff.

It sounds really cool. It was not at DCA last Sunday so they must have started it on Monday the 16th.
Will be there on Wedneday of this week to DCA and will let you know how it goes.

Does anyone know what the cost of photopass is? Do you pay just when you buy the pictures, or is there a charge for enrolling in the program too?

We used it on Friday. Right now, there is no internet access the way WDW has it. You have to buy them at the park, same day. And it is not at Disneyland. However, by November 1, they expect to integrate both parks and have the pictures on the internet.

darkacre, are you saying that the photopass is good for only one day (the same day you purchase it)?

That's a bummer, I was picturing being able to use it through the course of your vacation, between parks, etc., then getting the photos either downloaded to CD or printing them before you go home... Is that not how it works in Florida?

That is how it works at WDW but it has internet access and the previous poster stated DL was not online until Nov. I just wanted to make you aware that you can not download the photos. You can buy 5x7's 8x10's wallet size and greeting cards through the website and you can add the cool logos and autographs to them. Just so you are aware if you want to buy the CD make sure it is worth your while as it costs $99 for one cd with all of the photos.
We just bought ours but there were 3 families on our trip to WDW so we put all the photopass cards together and split the cost 3 ways.

I really hope they have it at both parks by the time we are there. It is great to have the whole family in pics. If you maximize the photopass use (which is everywhere at WDW) it is definatly worth the $99.

i saw LOTS and LOTS of photopass peoples at DCA... and they look awefully bored... just stand there and not doing anything...

Will CDs still be available like WDW and still cost $99? We split or spring trip b/w two families on one CD and it was worth the cost (would have liked more photos on there but it was OK). It took us about an our to add effects and such so I can't imagine that it would not take all that time at DCA also.
THANKS
Chris

Good to know for my upcoming trip!

All I know for sure is that they told us on Friday that the internet access was not yet available, and we would have to buy our pictures in the shop that night. Perhaps that means that they delete them at the end of each day, or perhaps the CM simply assumed I was only there on a 1 night pass (which the Halloween thing is) and could not come back the next day to get into the shop. I can find out for sure this Friday, when I go back.

That's the way things worked before Photopass (when we were there in late September.) They gave us a paper ticket with a # on it, and then we had to go to a shop to view the photo and (if we wanted it) get it printed. You had to print it the same day it was taken, otherwise it would be gone.

Hopefully things will be more clear once they're on the internet. I would love it if you had a card you could use throughout your stay, in both parks, and then store the photos to CD before you leave.

I think the pics stay on the net for 60-90 days. You cannot copy them in any way and have to purchase them from Disney.

At WDW we used the same photopass card the entire 7 day trip.

Maybe I'm a little confused...? I thought if you bought a Photopass, you were essentially pre-paying $99 for as many photos as you could fit on a CD. Is that wrong? The rest of what you describe sounded like I expected, that you can order individual prints (of various sizes) from the internet.

Am I confusing 2 different things? I thought the Photopass was the pre-paid CD of photos, but maybe it's just an electronic way of tracking the photo ID numbers?

In WDW it's an electronic way of tracking your pics. At the end of your vacation you have the option of buying the CD with all the pictures on them. We just returned from Disney World and used Photopass. At the end of 11 days I ended up with 200 pictures on my CD. Since the pics are digital the photographers will take 3 or 4 shots of your family. Much more than they would take at Disneyland the last time we were there.

200?! That's awesome! I would love to do that, I hope it works the same at DL (eventually.) I bought 5 printed photos (5x7s), and I think it came to around $60, so 200 for $99 is a no-brainer! Good for you!!!

I'm the family photographer, so I have hardly any pictures of me, and few family photographs. I'm just not very good at asking people to take our picture, I guess. This seems like a great solution!

Great thing about the Photopass is that it comes with the copyright. You can take the CD and print as many pictures as you want..wherever you want. I hope it'll work like WDW too. I won't be returning until 2008 so hopefully it's working by then.

I hope they at least have the internet photopass thing sorted by 9th Nov. the CD would just be a bonus, if we can get enough pics on it in 4 days!!

Oh, I have faith in you, you can do it! ;)

It's funny, when we first got there I didn't notice any photographers. (I don't know what I expected them to look like...) Then toward the end of our stay I spotted one in front of the castle and made a beeline for him! DS6 was being grumpy (probably because we wouldn't go to his favorite ride), so he took a couple shots of just DH and me.

After that I noticed them all over the place, like 10 of them in front of the castle, about as many at the DCA entrance, just standing around waiting for business.

We were there last week and they started Photopass during our vacation. The benefit for now is that you don't have to carry around mutiple pieces of paper - it all gets scanned on your barcode. But as of last week you still had to buy them the same night in the parks. I heard that the web purchase was not yet implemented.

And this was in DCA. Funny thing is when we first got our photopass we had 3 CM's come up and hear the spiel because they hadn't seen them yet.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that photopass and photomovie will be available and online for my (hopefully) upcomming trip in December. On our last trip to WDW, I did not buy the CD, but the photomovie, which my son ADORES!!! And it held 150 of our pictures, plus pictures of our hotel and the parks for $49.00. My ds now thinks he is a moviestar :teeth:
