Good news on May crowds

I booked my stay at Pop and POFQ *yesterday*! And pretty much every hotel I looked at was available for each night I wanted!

So definitely not booked solid as the obviously rude CM told someone else on the phone.

I'm leaving on the 8th and just did my PS today!!! I did not think I would have much luck but I got everything I wanted when I wanted. (even Hoop De Doo) Not once did I have to pick a different restaurant or time. That made me feel a lot better about May attendance.

Shagley .. We are from the LaSalle/Peru area. We are driving down May 26th. When I drive straight through.. it takes me about 19 or 20 hours and I am about 1 hour north of Peoria.

Chiming in to join the Illinois convention!

I'm in Naperville, will be there with my friend from Champaign from May 9 - 15. This will be our second trip, both times driving. I can't say exactly how long it takes because we split the trip into two days.

Can't wait!!!

hey, I'm from Central Illinois (Peoria) and going in May too. How is everyone from Illinois getting to WDW? Anyone driving? We are driving for the first time and I was curious how long it takes.


We are flying from Indy because we got great rates. ($120 round trip) otherwise we would be driving too! From what others we have talked to have said it would take us around 18 hours to drive...(we live near Champaign). We just made some of our PS and got the exact times we wanted and we leave in less than a month! Maybe its just wishful thinking but I am hoping that means the crowds won't be as bad as they are predicting! Where is everyone from Illinois that has posted on this thread staying? We will be at Port Orleans Riverside May 19-24!

I was getting very nervous that I picked the wrong time,but it looks as if my luck as finally taken a turn for the better.I can hardly wait, and a bonus so may fellow Illinoisans(sp) .

My boss is there right now. Talked to him yesterday. It's Spring Break for New England this week, and he says he hasn't waited more than 20 minutes for anything.

That is so weird, because I talked to a friend who was there yesterday, and she said that the parks were packed. She did say that between Fastpasses and waiting in line they are getting to do everything that they want. I didn't ask about specific wait times. Maybe to her, 20 minutes is long. I do know that they have gone at slower times in the past. It's amazing how perceptions can be so different.

I was somewhat skeptical that the parks were going to be that packed when we go down (5/12 - 5/21) - several resorts are still available & we got every single PS we wanted, without having to try for different days/times (just like a previous poster mentioned.) We have at least one PS per day.

We've never been in May before & are really looking forward to it. We're looking forward to the Flower & Garden Show at Epcot & checking out some of the Star Wars Weekend. I think the biggest difference in everyone's perceptions of the crowds, is when they normally go to WDW & what they have experienced in the past. If someone usually goes between Christmas & New Year's, then goes in April/May, it may seem very empty to them. On the other hand, those that normally go in the off season months would find April/May to be much more crowded.

I agree to some extent. Popular restaurants depending on the time you want are booked. Like CRT for lunch they didn't have available (in May it's still a normal lunch not character). Chef Mickey's dinner was not available until 9PM. I also inquired at Le Cellier a few weeks ago but changed my mind. They only had an early lunch available. I guess there are cancellations sometimes though so there might be some now.

Other than those three everything else was open... many other character breakfasts (Donald's, cape may) had times available from 8 to 11. CRT had a dinner that I snagged but I think it might be scare for times.. the first time I called they said they were booked the whole week but the next time they had several times available. When I called about 60 days in advance fantasmic dinner times were available as well. LLT wasn't booked.

I think a lot depends on your touring plan. If you go early and have a good touring plan the parks can seem emptyand you can get so much done. If you go later in the day and don't have a good plan then it can be terrible.
Also like you said. What is a short wait to one person can be a long wait to another.

I'm flying from Illinois. I got $59 one way on Southwest out of Midway, so I am definitely flying. DH and I drove down a number of years ago and it took us about 22-23 hours to get down there.
