Today, I was offered a teaching position which I've accepted. I taught school many years ago and really wanted to do so again. I start on August 23rd as soon as I return from taking my DD off to college.

Because I will be teaching full time, I will no longer be able to do gift baskets. From this point forward, I will not be taking any new orders. I will do all the baskets that I've confirmed up to this point.

I apologize for the short notice, but I just found out today and I have to be prepared to teach in a week.

I want to thank all of you who've purchased baskets from me in the past and all of you have supported me over the past two years. I will still be around on the DIS now and again. I wish you all the very best!!

Just wanted to wish you all the best in your new adventure!:thumbsup2

Congrats Peggy it's really nice to have a few choices to the things you want to do.

I guess I will just have to do DD's shopping our first day in DEC instead of getting our Basket from you but it just won't be the same.

Good luck on your new job! I am certainly glad I got my order in when I did :) . Everyone here on the boards has such high recommendations for you. My DD and DS are going to be so excited to see what they got from "Mickey".

Congratulations on your new job (from a fellow teacher)! From what I hear, your baskets will be sorely missed.... I was thinking of ordering one for our trip in October... but you're needed elsewhere! ;)

If you put half as much into your teaching as I have heard you put into your baskets then you'll have many lucky students! Best wishes at your new job!!! (And who knows, maybe you'll find a little "project" to keep you busy over the summers! ;) :teeth: )

Peggy, I am happy for you and your new career. This may be an excellent time for you to do something you enjoy, but different. I know when our youngest daughter left home it was difficult. I wish you much joy and happeness. You and your wonderful baskets will be missed. You have such a big heart as I have seen so many times here on the DIS. You are going to be a fantastic teacher.

I will never forget the super basket you made for my husband last year. He was so amazed with all you handmade flowers. That is saying something for a guy. ;)

Being a teacher is such a wonderful asset to the community. Congratulations on your new job!

Congrats on the new job! I have a couple of questions though. I am a music teacher who has taken off the last 6 1/2 yrs to stay home and raise my family. I have continued to be active (teaching private music lessons, teaching Sunday schoo, directing vacation bible school, directing 2 youth church choirs) BUT no one wants to take a chance on me. I am a good teacher (I hope that doesn't sound like bragging, but I am).

My question is how did you get a teaching job after so many yrs off? What did you resume look like? I must be doing something wrong. Thanks for any input since I know you have a lot of work to get done in 1 month.

Tina,

I'm sure you aren't doing anything wrong. Unfortunately, music is one of those areas that many school districts scrimp on when allocating their money.

I fell into this job. My daughter attended this school last year. She graduated last spring. It is a small private school.

Last week, I found out that the lady who is the school receptionist hurt her back. I volunteered to spend a few days at the school helping out. I answered phones, did copying, etc. In passing, I mentioned to the school director that I was having fun and that it reminded me of my old days teaching. She asked me what I was certified to teach. Yesterday, I received a call from the director asking me if I would be interested in a full time teaching position. One of the things that makes this school attractive to parents is a 12 to 1 pupil to teacher classroom ratio. They will not put more than 12 students to any one classroom. The school enrollment was up and they needed an additional teacher. I was a known quantity to them.

This job does not pay as well as a public school teaching position. I will start at 27k for ten months. My hours will be 8am to 2:45pm. I get fully paid health and 8 personal days a year. I'm sure that most school districts can do better than this, but they have a lot more hassels than I will be facing.

My suggestion to you is to network. If possible, volunteer to be a teacher's assistant one day a week. Let them get to know you. It couldn't hurt. Good luck!

I just wanted to say good luck and best wishes for your new job! I think that is awesome that you are going to be full time. I thought your new website/and current were great. I can tell that you love what you do, and I am sure you will be great at teaching!

I bet your new students will love you.

I have just been so lucky twice now. Fortunately I placed my order for september a few months ago, and last year I had also placed my order before your pause.

More congratulations and best wishes from a former customer ... you might remember that you organized my daughter's Christmas "bag from Tink". I so appreciated your helpfulness, since you hadn't started back up again yet. I'm sorry to see you end your service but wish you all the best in teaching.

Your students-to-be don't know how lucky they are! :teacher:
