I'm sure it's been asked tons of times before but...Does anyone recommend a certain good neighbor hotel? Which one is the best one? Which one is the worst one? Are they all fairly close?

I'm getting really close to convincing my DH to go, with the help of the DIS and some great trip reports! But I know that if we go it will have to be on a budget.

Thanks in advance for all the help!!

All the good neighbour hotels have strengths and weaknesses, it will all depend on what you are after. Here is a brief summary of the more popular ones that have been discussed on this board:

BWPPI - 5 min to DL, small pool, average breakfast, good room size, $$
Tropicanna - 5 min, good pool, average breakfast, ok room size, $$
Carousel Inn - 5 min, small pool, good breakfast, good room size,$$
HoJos - 15 min to DL, excellent pools, no breakfast, good room size, $
CCI - 15 min to DL, small pool, good breakfast, small room, free shuttle, $$$

These are all twin queen rooms, if just two of you then room size is no problem with any of these hotels, HoJos with the entertainment book is the cheapest, CCI is the dearest.

Camelot is one hotel I haven't seen but there have been some good reviews here, it is also 5 min away as is Park Place Inn which has very mixed reviews here.

Be wary of Trip Advisor ratings, because of the success of that site there are a lot of hotels writing their own ratings... The experiences here are probably a better guide.

:confused3 I stayed at Howard Johnson three years ago and it took me not even 7 minutes to walk from the hotel to DL. Anyway...I really enjoyed my stay there. The room was nice and the service was great. ...I also stayed at the Anaheim Hilton another time. Although it's nice, if you were to stay there and stay at DL until park closing and missed the last shuttle you'd be sorry.

Walking speed is a sensitive issue here, the reality is its over half a mile from HoJos reception to the security check, I am sure at a jog it can be done in 5 minutes although for most at a gentle walking pace its 10 to 15 minutes...

I really liked the HoJo, the walk seemed short to me, shorter that taking the ART shuttle, anyway. Clean, nice sized rooms, and you can get park view. With the entertainment card its a steal. Ill be staying there for the second time this year in October. While I havent stayed at any of the other hotels im sure they are nice. I figure that if its on the Good Neigbor list, they cant be that bad. The one thing that HoJos is missing is cont. breakfast.

Thanks everyone for all the information!! I hoping that once I plan everything out with prices it will help get the ball rolling for my first DL trip! I think DH wants to go as much as I do but he's probably going to make me beg anyway:rolleyes:

Thanks again!! :thumbsup2

I have another question...Has anyone stayed at the Candy Cane Inn? I looked online and it says that it is 200ft away for the entrance. I was wondering if this hotel is as nice as they make it sound.

I've never stayed at Candy Cane Inn but I've heard good reviews on it. But from what I know of the hotels on Harbor, CCI is not that close to DL (it's not directly across the crosswalk like a lot of the others) Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I just looked at the CCI website again and I read it wrong it doesn't say 250 ft. It's 250 yards so that makes a diiference. But I thought the price was pretty good and it looks nice. I'm not looking for much. It's just going to be DH and I. I just don't want a roach motel. Yuck!

The CCI is a very nice motel on Harbor. It really has quite a following with most people becoming repeat visitors. The only complaint I've ever heard is that the rooms were a little small and the pool was a bit smallish too. It is supposed to be immaculately clean and the breakfast that is offered is better than most in the area and can be eaten poolside in the morning, which sounds rather nice.

HoJo's hotel map says 8min to the gate and at a regular walking pace (not a stroll or a run), we found it to be 8min!

Using Google earth to map from the centre of the CCI to the Security check via the footpath, its just over half a mile, HoJos is about the same, both have a crosswalk which can alter your time. That puts it about 650 yards, the hotels that are directly across the street are more like 250 yards. I would be very dubious of any hotel prepared to falsfy information about itself.... Definitely not a roach motel though, friends stayed there, rooms and pool small and the walk got to be annoying, but otherwise ok.

hi! we stayed at the Candy Cane Inn for the first time in June. we loved it !!! we took the shuttle to the parks each time and they were very nice. the laundry room was clean and someone checked on us a couple times to see if everything was working ok. the am food was plenty and FREE !!! we would go back again !! they even gave us a candy cane pen when we checked out!!:surfweb: hope this helps and have a great trip.
