I was just trying to figure out hotels might cost us, and came across something that surprised me. The price list I found shows the price for 2 adults for two nights, with an extra cost of at least $97 for each of our two kids? Works out to just over $200 U.S. per night for the cheapest hotel room available... am I doing that right?

Either any other time I've stayed in a hotel the cost for the kids has been hidden, or we haven't paid extra for our kids to stay with us. Maybe we should just vacation in the summer in Canada..... this is nuts and far too much to figure out.

Where are you finding this information? If it is a package part of the charge for the children would probably be extra park hopper tickets but it certainly doesn't justify $97 each, unless it has a meal package also.
I have found that, in general, instead of booking a Disneyland Package I can do better by buying the accomodations and tickets seperately myself.

I agree with daannzzz, it sounds like the extra charge is for park tickets. The hotels around DL are very reasonably priced. Almost all of them advertise "kids free" and many of them offer free meals to children as well. Decide which hotel you like (we always stay at the Crowne Plaza) and go to their website to check pricing. There have also been reports of some great deals using Priceline (4-star hotels for around $60/night).

Don't get discouraged, with careful planning and some research you can have a great vacation at DL without going bankrupt!!!
