good midday resting place?

Hi -

I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions on a good resting place in the Magic Kingdom for a midday break. We are bringing our 4yo daughter and 11 month old son, and are planning on being there from morning through the fireworks at night. So I'm wondering what might be good, shaded places to rest, perhaps let them nap in their strollers if they would. If it would be a restaurant, I would want it not to feel too crowded or loud.

Hi, Unfortunately I think you're going to find it difficult to find a truly "quiet" place to rest at WDW. All the restaurants seem pretty noisy to me as well. Having said that when ds was still under age two, we never had too much trouble getting him to nap in his stroller. WDW is such a busy place that it just wore him out and he would konk out for a couple of hours w/no problem and the noise didn't seem to bother him too much (and he has never been a great sleeper at home either). There were a few times that we would take him on the Haunted Mansion ride and once in the Doom Buggy he would konk right out (I think it was the gently rocking motion that put him out, lol) One thing you could do is just ride the monorail around. It's air-conditioned and since it's on a loop you don't have to get off until you want to. You might also take the boat over to Fort Wilderness and I think you would have better luck finding a quiet shady spot there to rest for a bit. If you're staying on property, going back to the resort for a little pool time is always refreshing.

O.K. I hope I can explain this location to you. I saw several resting families in this area. As you approach the castle on your left side past the entrance to adventureland. The entrance to Liberty Square. There is shade and some benches in this area, also I believe Restrooms are close by. Also many people have mentioned Tom Sawyer Island. We rested here once back in 93. It was nice and cool. The kids could run around or rest. A bit of peace from all the stimulation. We have also taken respite on The Tomorrow Land Transit Authority.

One of my favorite places to rest in the afternoon is the Tiki Room in Adventureland. Everyone gets a place to sit and it is air conditioned. However, I don't think stollers are allowed in there. Also nice is the Liberty Ferry ride (steamboat maybe?). Again, a nice place to sit a while and relax during a scenic tour. Usually what I do is avoid Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Main Street all together when it is around nap time, as these places tend to be the most crowded. Adventureland also has a covered marketplace outside of the Pirates of the Carribean ride - not air conditioned but there is a large fountain to sit by and you might be able to get a seat in the shade. Try resting also at Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer's island - lots of shade there under the trees and plenty of exploration for your four-year-old.
My husband and I have gone numerous times with my DS now 7 and my DD now 3. I'm very lucky that both my kids have always been happy to sleep in the stroller, so we've never had to leave the park!!!!!

A ride around on the railroad can be relaxing, but not a great NAP place. DS took a great nap on the monorail and woke up refreshed and ready for a character meal. . If it is hot, I would hop on the monorail and head towards EPCOT as that is a longer uninteruppted ride from TTC. Once they are asleep, you can hop on the resort monorail and even get off and look at the different hotels if you want.

What about the area near the Baby Center and the First Aid Center? It's right near Casey's and Crystal Palace. The restrooms are there, too. There are a bunch of benches over there and it is totally shaded.

IMHO, I wouldn't worry about finding a specific place. The kids will just nap in their stroller when they need to! Then you guys can just take it slow while they are sleeping.

You'd have to leave the stroller outside, but the spot is great if you don't mind sitting on the floor: the pre-show area of the Hall of Presidents.

I used it with a baby, and even before that, in my childless days, as a place to lie down if I got a really nasty migraine. It is a big empty room with somewhat subdued lighting, and since HOP has gotten less popular it has become fairly quiet at all but the most crowded times of year. Put a blanket on the floor at the very back of the room (away from the theatre doors), and it makes a good air-conditioned place for a small child to rest. I've never had CM's try to shoo me out; they would occasionally see me lying down back there and ask if I was OK, but when I said I just needed to cool off in a quiet place for awhile, they let me be.
